F1 fans are all saying the same thing after Franco Colapinto ‘incident’ during private Alpine test

Franco Colapinto’s return to Formula 1 with Alpine has not gone as smoothly as he would’ve wanted having yet to score any points.

Alpine currently sit at the bottom of the Constructors’ Championship with only Pierre Gasly having scored 20 points across four races.

The team drafted in Colapinto at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix to replace Jack Doohan, but so far they have failed to make any progress. Gasly warned at the Belgium GP that Alpine faces a tricky second half of the year, now that they are focused fully on 2026.

Colapinto’s lack of progress has prompted questions about his future, and whether he will continue with the team beyond his 2026 agreement.

Now F1 fans are all saying the same thing in social media website X (formerly Twitter), after the Argentine was caught up in an incident during a Pirelli tyre test this week at the Hungaroring.

F1 fans want Alpine to change drivers after Franco Colapinto crash in Pirelli test

Alpine took to X to explain that Colapinto was ok after being taken to the medical centre following an incident out on track at Turn 11, with images posted by separate users showing his car having crashed into the barriers.

After the latest incident on track, F1 fans think Alpine need to consider making a change to their lineup if they are serious about scoring more points.

One user felt that Alpine should revert to their lineup from the start of the season: “Jack Doohan in please, Franco is so bad my god.”

Another user wrote: “Good to hear he’s ok, but time to face up to the fact that he’s not quite good enough.”

Another user also said: “It’s clear that Colapinto is a terrible driver. Jack Doohan should be driving that car starting from the Dutch GP.”

Alpine have a few drivers in their pool to choose from, with one user thinking they should promote another upcoming rookie: “Paul Aron was the fastest yesterday. Put him in the car AGAIN.”

Another user agreed: “This is ridiculous. He destroyed the car, and it was just a simple test. Put Paul Aron in; he was the fastest yesterday.”

A few offered support for Colapinto, with one user writing: “Let’s hope he’s truly okay. All the best to Franco,” with another writing: “Glad to hear he’s doing well. Hope it wasn’t too violent.”

Franco Colapinto could be replaced by six-win driver

While Aron and Doohan are both available to Alpine should they want to get rid of Colapinto before the end of the season, team advisor Flavio Briatore thinks there is another ‘win-win situation’ for the team.

Valtteri Bottas has been linked with a seat at Alpine, given they are set to switch to Mercedes power units for the 2026 season.

Bottas has recently opened the door for a move to Alpine on a short-term basis, while he also looks towards a seat at Cadillac.

Sergio Perez has also been linked to a seat with Alpine, as the Mexican is looking at ways to get back on the grid after being dismissed by Red Bull last year.
