Ferrari heads into their home race at the Italian Grand Prix off the back of a double DNF at Zandvoort, but that hasn’t stopped them from celebrating the festivities at Monza.

Lewis Hamilton will be looking to put his uncharacteristic crash behind him, although the seven-time world champion does head into the race with a five-place grid penalty.

Charles Leclerc will be hopeful that he can replicate his win from last season, although Ferrari did introduce a car upgrade that enabled them to challenge McLaren for the Constructors’ Championship in the second half of 2024.

Ferrari usually commemorates their home race with a special livery, and this year, they have produced a throwback to one of their most iconic drivers. Fans have taken to the social media website Instagram and are all asking the team to do the same thing after seeing it.

Ferrari have revealed that they will run a tribute livery to commemorate 50 years since Niki Lauda’s world championship victory in 1975.

Both Hamilton and Leclerc will wear special race suits, and the car will feature a livery inspired by the iconic 312T with a white engine cover and Italian flag on the roll hoop.

The wheel covers have also been changed and their names have been stylised to look similar to what both Lauda and teammate Clay Regazzoni had on their cars.

Fans took to social media to offer their viewpoint, with one commenting: “Petition to keep this livery for the rest of the year, please,” while another wrote: “Should have been the livery all year instead of the one we got.”

One fan wrote: “You can keep this the whole year that’d be cool,” while another said: “Why that wasn’t the Base all-year livery?”

Other fans commented: “This should have been the permanent livery,” with another also saying: “Let’s just have this livery for the rest of the season.”

Lauda won two of his three titles with Ferrari after joining the team in 1974, claiming his first title in 1975.

He was on course to repeat the feat in 1976 but suffered a near-fatal crash at the Nurburgring, which put him out for most of the races that season.

Upon his return, Lauda was in a battle with James Hunt for the title, and would go on to narrowly lose out to the Briton at the final round of the season by one point.

He would win the title in 1977 for a final time with Ferrari, before quitting the Maranello-based squad after having a fallout with Enzo Ferrari.

Hamilton said Lauda was his mentor when he was at Mercedes, having been a key figurehead during their years of success.
