Nelson Piquet was one of the most dominant drivers in Formula 1 in the 1980s and his driving style has now been compared to McLaren star Lando Norris.
Lando Norris has yet to win his first race in F1 but has just committed his future to McLaren for the foreseeable future.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Formula 1 expert and journalist Peter Windsor was discussing how the Brazilian dominated the sport.
The driver market in 2024 and 2025 is likely to be one of the main talking points of the season.
Only a handful of drivers entered the year knowing which team they would be driving for when the 2025 season begins.
Charles Leclerc’s new contract is unlikely to spark a flurry of movement as he was always likely to stay at Ferrari.
And while his deal still had another year to run, McLaren wanted to guarantee Norris’s long-term future.
Norris has now been told that his driving style is very similar to Nelson Piquet’s.
The Brazilian won the F1 world championship in 1981, 1983 and 1987 while driving for Brabham and Williams.
The 24-year-old Brit will be hoping he can emulate some of that success in the coming years in papaya orange with McLaren.

Lando Norris’s driving style compared to Nelson Piquet
When asked about what Nelson Piquet’s driving style was like, Norris said: “Soft touch, Lando Norris touch level if not more.
“Great feel but long corners, absolutely long corners, sort of not to the extent of Carlos Sainz but definitely longer than even Lando Norris I would say.
“So, turned in quite late, Jenson Button-esque I would say and very clever.”
For Norris to be in the same conversation as Piquet and Jenson Button when it comes to his driving style is a real compliment.
He was sensational last season, producing some fantastic performances during Grand Prix although he made too many mistakes in qualifying.
Norris’s aim this year will be to reach the top step of the podium for the first time in his career.
So much of that depends on the car McLaren produces and whether anyone can stop Max Verstappen.
