Esteban Ocon is at risk of losing his seat at Haas in 2027, and now ‘everyone’ in the Formula 1 paddock has drawn their attention to F2 star Rafael Camara.

Rumours have been rife about Ocon’s future in F1, as his results at Haas have not been what the team expected when they signed him from Alpine.

With rookie teammate Oliver Bearman consistently outperforming him, the Frenchman is running out of time to save his career. In fact, it has even been suggested that Ocon’s exit is already a done deal, with multiple drivers vying for the Haas seat.

Some serious talents are emerging in F2 in 2026, but who stands the best chance of landing an F1 seat in 2027?

According to a report from Blick, Ocon is ‘under pressure’ to stay at Haas next year. The American outfit are assessing their options for 2027, and Camara is starting to attract more attention.

Ferrari are pushing for Haas to sign Camara, with the Brazilian driver being a huge talent in the making, having won the F3 title last season. Fresh off his win in F2 in Barcelona, journalist Julianne Cerasoli says ‘everyone’ in the paddock is talking about Camara for 2027.

She said via her YouTube channel: “I knew he’d done really well in his test with Ferrari. And I know just how much the performance of these young drivers, when they do these Formula 1 tests, is taken into account by the teams.

“So I thought it was time for Rafa to make a name for himself in the market and I was asking around, but in Canada it was coming from me. I was asking everyone, ‘Rafa Câmara’, I hadn’t thought about it. This weekend loads of people came to ask me and Rafa. Everyone’s talking about him.

“So, there’s been a shift over the last couple of weeks. He’s been impressing everyone with how he really stands out from the crowd, the way he’s calm, composed, and sees things in a very pragmatic way: ‘OK, what went wrong? What am I going to do to improve?’

“So, yeah, that’s been attracting a lot of attention. For the people managing his career, the most important thing is that he focuses entirely on winning the Formula 2 title. They don’t want to get Formula 1 in the way.”

Could McLaren junior Leonardo Fornaroli emerge as a Haas target for 2027?

Camara is among several drivers looking to land a seat with Haas in 2027. Yuki Tsunoda is hoping to get in Toyota’s good books and make a return to F1 with Haas next season.

Reserve drivers Ryo Hirakawa and Jack Doohan are also options for 2027. Toyota can seriously see a future in F1 for the former, while the latter’s commercial value could land him a seat.

Another candidate may be about to emerge, as Haas have confirmed that McLaren driver Leonardo Fornaroli will have a test with the team at Jerez on June 17 and 18. Having won the F3 and F2 titles, the Italian is looking to get onto the F1 grid.
