Eddie Jordan has told Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll that he simply has to improve soon if the team are going to maximise their potential.
The 25-year-old had a tough weekend in Saudi Arabia as he was the only driver to crash on the streets of Jeddah.
Speaking on the Formula For Success Podcast, Jordan was very critical of the Canadian driver.
Jordan tells Stroll he needs to improve
The writing – and the paint from the side of his car – was on the wall for Lance Stroll as soon as started racing in Saudi Arabia last weekend.
In the first practice session, he grazed the barriers and escaped with minor damage, but never got to grips with the circuit.
He was easily out-qualified by teammate Fernando Alonso and lasted just five laps before making a crucial error that ended his race.
Stroll clipped the same wall he had a brush with in practice but this time it broke his suspension and at that point, he was simply a passenger.
His recovery drive in Bahrain after being spun by Nico Hulkenberg was praised but the difference between his Aston Martin and the bottom five teams is substantial.

Jordan has now told Stroll he has to improve if the team is going to go to the next level.
With his father reportedly willing to do ‘whatever it takes’ to sign Max Verstappen if he decides to leave Red Bull, suddenly his bulletproof seat could be under threat.
Stroll in an unenviable position of constant Alonso comparisons
Reviewing the Canadian’s start to the season, Jordan said: “Lance [Stroll] has had some amazingly good races, Baku comes to mind and various other places.
“But it’s too seldom, it’s not often enough. We don’t see Lance Stroll, he doesn’t qualify well enough and maybe creeps into the top ten if he’s lucky.
“But Alonso is always quicker than him, so I’m at a confusion.
“How does Lawrence Stroll go out and get the best technical people worldwide and make his team into a consistent race-winning team?
“Either, Lance has to move up a scale and really get himself together and continually finish on the podium and then people will totally believe in what he’s able to do.
“But at the moment his results are not good enough and I think he’s going to have to think about this once and for all.”
Jordan is correct to say that Stroll has to improve as Alonso showed in Saudi Arabia that Aston Martin can compete with the likes of Mercedes and McLaren.
The team have been urged to replace the 25-year-old but that’s not particularly likely to happen right now.
He’s already under pressure to improve and will hope he can deliver a better result in Melbourne.
