Eddie Jordan has now shared whether he believes Ferrari will stick with Oliver Bearman for the Australian Grand Prix next Sunday.

The 18-year-old was thrown into Carlos Sainz’s car at the last minute due to the Spanish driver requiring emergency surgery.

Speaking on the Formula For Success Podcast, Jordan explained who he thought would be racing in Melbourne.

Jordan makes Bearman claim ahead of Australian Grand Prix

Few would have expected Oliver Bearman to perform as well as he did in Saudi Arabia last weekend.

Handed his unlikely Formula 1 opportunity after putting his F2 PREMA on pole position, he took more points than Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton in Jeddah.

He was praised for his bravery after overtaking Yuki Tsunoda and even had time to moan over the radio that Nico Hulkenberg was driving too slowly.

Bearman was asked whether he hoped he would be driving for Ferrari in Melbourne next week and admitted he wanted to give the car back to Sainz.

However, Jordan believes that there’s a very good chance we see Bearman driving in Australia.

Sainz was seen in the paddock on the day of the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix but he didn’t look comfortable the day after the surgery.

Ferrari are set to make a very late call on his fitness and his comfort on the long flight to Melbourne might give the team an early indication of his suitability to drive the SF-24.

Bearman could be handed one last Ferrari chance

Speaking about the 18-year-old’s chances, Jordan said: “He [Bearman] was great, we laugh and joke about it but for me, [an] appendix is not something, with your abdomen and stuff like that and the way the car moves and as everybody at home knows, the feeling in the car comes from through your a–.

“And so therefore I think it will be difficult for Ferrari to continue for the next race in Australia with Carlos [Sainz].

“My opinion is that Oliver will get another run at it and we’ll then see what he’s really able to do which would make sense.”

Considering how well Bearman drove last weekend, Ferrari might agree with Jordan and give the teenager one last chance in Australia instead of rushing Sainz back.

The Spaniard will be desperate to return to the car and build on his podium finish in Bahrain.

Otherwise, he’ll continue to lose ground on teammate Charles Leclerc and his other rivals.

While he’s looking for a new seat for the 2025 season, sitting on the sidelines is far from ideal.
