Eddie Jordan has dealt with his fair share of Formula 1 talent throughout his career – after all, he introduced Michael Schumacher to the pinnacle of motorsport.
He’s widely regarded as one of the top three drivers of all time, if not the best by some who were fortunate enough to witness his relentless domination in the early 2000’s.
But the current crop of talent in Formula 1 has been subject to evolution, more strenuous fitness regimes and tougher cars to deal with.
To some, it’s more impressive to dominate in the modern era, such is the incredible level that a person has to reach to be capable to achieving such feats.

Eddie Jordan picks out the ‘best drivers’ in Formula 1 right now
Jordan has now shared his verdict on the Formula For Success Podcast who he thinks the current best driver in the sport is, having watched on as a pundit and fan over the last few decades after his team fell apart.
Both Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are on the grid, as well as Fernando Alonso who collectively combine for 12 championships between them, but Jordan’s pick won’t be much of a surprise to anyone in the know.

“We were all slagging off Perez, but maybe Perez and that car – that’s the speed of the car and what Max is doing is what Max is able to do.
“Beyond any doubt, he’s the best driver in Formula 1 beyond any doubt in my opinion at this moment in time. Therefore, to finish fifth and fourth and sixth or whatever, it must be killing him at this stage.”
It’s those recent Red Bull struggles which will have been driving Verstappen crazy, watching on as his rivals close the gap in both championships.
Why Verstappen’s mighty talent might be enough to win the 2024 title
Verstappen has been driving at his usual incredible levels for most of 2024, but crucially over his title bids of previous years, he has the experience to know what it takes to claim the crown over the course of 24 races.
It’ll help him in wheel to wheel battles with the likes of Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc in the final eight races, as well as knowing what to do with his strategy.

Verstappen opted for change back to an old floor recently, which helped him extract a little more pace from his RB20 that had been missing in recent times.
It’s decisions like that, that could end up being the difference between a few points that could settle the championship in Abu Dhabi.
Martin Brundle called the Red Bull a ‘handful’ in Monza, and that’s something that will need to improve across the rest of the season, but as Jordan added, if anyone has the talent and skill to do the improbable, it’s Verstappen.
