Former Formula 1 team principal Eddie Jordan believes he’s spotted a sign that indicates what Aston Martin star Fernando Alonso is going to do in the future.
The two-time world champion has led the way for Aston Martin since making the move from Alpine at the end of the 2022 season.
Speaking on the Formula For Success Podcast, Jordan explained why he feels he knows what the Spaniard is going to do next.
Jordan spots hint on Alonso’s Formula 1 future
He may be the oldest man on the F1 grid right now, but Fernando Alonso doesn’t drive like someone who is more than double the age of the youngest competitor this season.
When Oliver Bearman was born, Alonso was midway through his first championship-winning campaign with Renault in 2005.
Alonso has since driven in over a third of all the Formula 1 races ever to take place in the sport’s history and arguably should have more race wins and championships to show for it.
However, in recent weeks he’s been coy about his further participation in F1 with his Aston Martin contract expiring at the end of 2024.

Jordan now believes he’s spotted a hint that shares what Alonso is planning to do in the future.
It’s something he’s done away from the track and might explain why Martin Brundle thought he looked ‘dispirited’ during the opening Grand Prix of the year in Bahrain.
Alonso still capable of fighting against F1’s young guns
Talking about the 42-year-old, Jordan said: “I just feel now that he’s probably calculating…he’s bought a new boat, that’s often an indication to me because I know you bought a boat at the time and then retired gracefully after that and I did the same.
“People have a habit of buying boats and retiring so let’s see what happens.
“But, Fernando should be in Formula 1, he’s such an exciting driver and as long as he wants to do it, then there’s always a place there in my heart for him.”
Jordan may believe that Alonso soon sees his future away from F1, but that doesn’t mean he can’t explore his options.
His manager was spotted talking to Christian Horner during the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend.
He’s also a name high on Mercedes’s list as a potential replacement for Lewis Hamilton.
However, if the demanding 24-race calendar is too much for Alonso then he may decide to call it a day sooner rather than later.
It would be a bitter blow for the sport to lose such a legendary driver, especially if he can’t add one more victory to his 32 race wins.
