‘Desperate’ F1 driver now has a ‘very slim’ chance of replacing Franco Colapinto at Alpine

Alpine sit rock bottom of the constructors’ championship and are having a disastrous Formula 1 season in 2025.

Even Pierre Gasly has been unable to drag them out of a mess this time, despite putting in some incredible performances, particularly in qualifying.

He has demolished the two Alpine teammates he has had this year, and is responsible for all 19 of the team’s points.

Neither Franco Colapinto nor Jack Doohan have been good enough in the second car, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see further changes ahead of the 2026 F1 regulations.

Flavio Briatore has delivered one worrying message to Colapinto which suggests that he could be at threat of replacement after failing to score points for the French outfit.

Despite walking into a team that hasn’t always started their seasons in the best form, Colapinto is surprised at Alpine’s ‘poor’ car and has been worse than Doohan was at most races.

Jack Doohan’s chances of replacing Franco Colapinto at Alpine are ‘very slim’

Jacques Villeneuve once called Doohan ‘desperate’, but he hasn’t been cut the same slack that his replacement has been.

He made fewer mistakes and looked a little closer to Gasly on pace, but it still wasn’t good enough to earn him more than a six-race berth at the team.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, Doohan’s chances of replacing Colapinto at Alpine are now ‘very slim’.

The team will have plenty of data on the two now and should be able to assess who is quicker between the two.

Colapinto faces a ‘tense situation’ at Alpine, and time is ticking for him to start delivering results. There is a lot of pressure on his young shoulders.

Why Alpine were wrong to drop Jack Doohan for Franco Colapinto

Following a clutch problem at the British Grand Prix, Colapinto was denied the chance to start his sixth race this season.

In six events, he’s yet to retire from a race, which is more than can be said for Doohan, who retired twice in the same span.

However, Alpine were wrong to drop Doohan for Colapinto, and there was one statistic which proved that to be the case.

After the Belgian Grand Prix, the team may be tempted to make a decision on their line-up so they can come back from the summer break with a fresh approach.

But it may not make much of a difference, considering how poor their efforts have been across the 2025 season so far.
