Davide Valsecchi ‘convinced’ he knows where Red Bull will finish in the Constructors’ Championship

Red Bull face a challenge in the next couple of races to improve their performance, having fallen behind McLaren in the championship battle.

Team principal Christian Horner believes they now have the fourth fastest car on the grid, while Max Verstappen referred to the RB20 as a ‘monster’ after finishing in sixth in the Italian Grand Prix.

Red Bull is now only eight points ahead of McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship, while Lando Norris has cut the gap to Verstappen to just 62 points.

The team’s advantage in both championships is diminishing, as they search for answers over why their upgrades have not worked as intended with the RB20.

Former racing driver turned pundit Davide Valsecci believes Red Bull will likely slip even further behind in the title battle when speaking on the F1 Nation podcast.

Red Bull likely to finish fourth in Constructors’ Championship

After both Ferrari drivers outscored Red Bull at Monza following a stunning victory by Charles Leclerc, the Marinello-based team has also moved to within 100 points of their rivals with eight races left.

If both Leclerc and Sainz continue to finish ahead of Red Bull at the upcoming races, the Milton Keynes squad could find themselves slipping further behind.

A senior member of the Red Bull team told a McLaren member that their focus is now on the Drivers’ Championship, while Valsecci believes it could get worse for them.

“I’m almost convinced that it’s going to be McLaren, Ferrari and the Red Bull,” said Valsecci.

“There is two or three of the next few races where I’m sure that the kid plus the car can achieve everything. And I mean the victory.”

What has happened to Red Bull?

It looked like business as usual for Red Bull as they started of 2024 where they left off last season with Verstappen and Perez taking one-two victories by comfortable margins.

But ever since the Miami GP, when Norris took his first victory, Red Bull’s advantage has faded away with McLaren now emerging as the quickest package.

McLaren introduced their first major updates at Miami and their effects were instant, as Norris chased Verstappen for victory at Imola, Spain, Austria and Silverstone.

After Adrian Newey announced he would be leaving Red Bull at the end of 2024, the team has struggled to recapture its dominating performance from 2023. Their sudden turn of pace could see Verstappen searching for another drive, having been courted by Mercedes’ Toto Wolff earlier this season.

The final eight races will be a real test to see whether Red Bull can turn things around and defend their championship crown.
