Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft was seriously impressed with Alpine driver Esteban Ocon during the Singapore Grand Prix.

Croft was commentating at the Marina Bay circuit during one of the most exciting races of the season.

The domination of Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing this season was finally brought to an end today.

A poor qualifying session for Verstappen and Sergio Perez saw them both miss out on the top ten shootout.

Carlos Sainz took back-to-back pole positions, while Lando Norris continued to impress in his McLaren.

A bold strategy call from Mercedes made the final laps incredibly exciting.

They were only allowed to do so after Esteban Ocon’s Alpine stopped at the pit exit after some excellent work earlier in the race.

It brought out the Virtual Safety Car which set George Russell and Lewis Hamiton on their way.

Croft highlighted one particular move from Ocon in Singapore that really impressed him before his race came to a premature end.

It was a very unfortunate way for him to end his 27th birthday.

Red Bull had to gamble on their strategy and left their cars out during the safety car caused by Logan Sargeant losing his front wing.

It meant the rest of the field had to work their way past them in a bizarre twist on what’s been happening throughout the rest of the season.

Esteban Ocon snuck past Fernando Alonso before taking on the Mexican and after setting him up through turns six and seven, he finally made the move on turn eight.

On commentary, Croft said: “That looked neat from Esteban Ocon, that looked magnificent from Esteban Ocon!”

Croft and the crowd in Singapore were impressed with Ocon getting past the Red Bull driver on his 250th F1 race.

The Frenchman deserved to finish in the points today but a suspected gearbox issue snatched that opportunity away from him.

He’s gone from moaning about Williams’s straight-line speed to consistently fighting for points.

Unfortunately, reliability issues have put paid to his and Alpine’s chances of a double-points finish.
