David Coulthard spotted Lewis Hamilton doing something ‘incredible’ following his disappointing British Grand Prix.

On Sunday, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc won the British Grand Prix as he took the chequered flag ahead of George Russell and Hamilton.

There was a controversial end to the race after Max Verstappen’s incident brought out the safety car.

Due to what was described as a software issue, it was signalled that the safety car would end with one lap to go; however, it ended up staying out, denying a last-lap sprint finish.

As a result, Hamilton was left disappointed as he pitted during the safety car period, losing P2 to Russell.

David Coulthard heaps praise on ‘gracious’ Lewis Hamilton following the British Grand Prix

Despite a tough ending to the British Grand Prix in front of his home crowd, Hamilton was praised for what he did following the race.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Up To Speed podcast, Coulthard admitted that he found it ‘incredible’ to see how ‘happy’ Hamilton was for Leclerc and Ferrari.

The 55-year-old, who drove for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull during his Formula 1 career, stated that Hamilton was not finding excuses or complaining and simply showed his graciousness.

He also likened Hamilton’s reaction to when he controversially lost the 2021 world championship to Verstappen in Abu Dhabi.

Coulthard said: “It would have been incredible (For Hamilton to win a 10th British Grand Prix), but what I also find incredible about Lewis, you see how sort of happy he was for Charles, for Ferrari.

“He wasn’t there going, ‘Oh, you know, blah, blah, blah’, it’s a bit like when he lost the world championship to Max in Abu Dhabi 2021. Thought about it, walked up, shook his hand. He’s very gracious.

“So yeah, there were a lot of great things to come out of this weekend.”

Speaking after winning his first race since the 2024 United States Grand Prix in Austin, Leclerc admitted that he thought about copying Hamilton’s driving style following a tough run of results.

The Monegasque has been well beaten by his teammate in the last few races, but rediscovered his form over the weekend to return to the top step of the podium.

As reported by F1, Leclerc explained: “I kind of had two options. One was to change my driving style and basically copy Lewis, because that seems to be working very well.

“The second was to keep my driving style and try to find a way around the car, and that’s the option I chose. Today it paid off. I hope it’ll pay off tomorrow as well.”

The 2026 F1 season will continue next week with the Belgian Grand Prix, taking place at Spa-Francorchamps.
