The Formula 1 community mourned the loss of Eddie Jordan following his passing earlier this year in March, after announcing that he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in December.

Jordan’s passing was met with a wave of tributes for the former Jordan Grand Prix team owner. The Irishman’s story as an owner of one of the last great independent F1 outfits is seen as one of the most inspiring cases of resilience and determination that is unlikely to be seen again.

Martin Brundle commemorated the life of Jordan after his death was announced, noting the number of drivers who ‘owe’ him so much for giving them their chance in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Christian Horner and Toto Wolff couldn’t ‘snub’ Eddie Jordan due to an ‘understanding’ in the F1 paddock

Speaking on a recent episode of the Indo Sports podcast, former F1 driver David Coulthard revealed the sort of access Jordan was allowed in the F1 paddock.

The Irishman was a much-loved figure on race weekends, due to the respect he had attained over the years as a team boss who, against all odds, proved it was possible for an independent team to fight against some of the heavyweights in F1.

“I do not believe there will be an entrepreneurial Grand Prix team owner like Eddie ever again,” Coulthard told Indo Sports. “The sport has changed in so many different ways now that he could call out Toto Wolff, Christian Horner, Stefano Domenicali, and Guenther Steiner when he was there.

“He could call them out, and they had nothing but either an answer for him or a nervous laugh. Whereas if any other individual within the Formula 1 community would call them out. They would put them on their list of I’m not talking to them, tell the press office they’re not talking to them.

“Just snub them, smother them, do what people in positions of power can do when they don’t like the question. They couldn’t do it to Eddie because there was always that understanding that he’d been there and done it in tougher times than they had.

“It’s not to take away from the incredible success of Toto, Christian and these guys because they’re inspirational leaders, but they hadn’t literally remortgaged the home, sent the bailiffs around the back door and done all of that to get to where they got to.

“Eddie was an incredible, incredible individual.”

Eddie Jordan would have loved to see Oscar Piastri leading the F1 championship in 2025

Jordan had a knack for discovering genuine single-seater talent with raw potential. Oscar Piastri is one of the more recent names that he had tipped to become a future world champion in the sport.

Mark Webber revealed Jordan’s love for Piastri, stating that the team principal turned pundit would send him ‘endless messages’ about the Australian’s development and highlighting his awe for his enthusiasm.

Piastri led tributes to Jordan on the weekend of the Chinese Grand Prix, the same race that the 24-year-old would go on to win to mark his first victory in the 2025 campaign.

The McLaren driver has since been on title-winning form, securing a further five race wins since Shanghai and building a nine-point gap on teammate Lando Norris at the summer break.
