After nearly two decades spent helping Red Bull Racing win trophy after trophy, Adrian Newey has finally confirmed his next destination in the paddock.
Speculation has been rife for months ever since Adrian Newey decided he needed a new challenge about where he would end up next.
Ted Kravitz couldn’t believe Newey wasn’t considering retiring but the self-proclaimed incredibly competitive designer is moving on to his next challenge.
Newey has never been someone who wants to join a front-running team just to discover the smallest imperfections and continue their success.
Instead, he’s built midfield teams up to the highest heights and Aston Martin are his next – and potentially final – project in Formula 1.
After Fernando Alonso finished on the podium on eight occasions last season, he and Lance Stroll have struggled to challenge the top four teams.

Taking to Instagram after the announcement, David Coulthard made an exceptional prediction about Alonso’s chances next year.

The 2025 season is the final campaign under the current regulations and already teams are preparing their cars for next year.
It’s hard to imagine anybody challenging the current top four teams given the gulf in class and with manufacturers beginning to turn their attention to the new ruleset in 2026.
However, Coulthard has said that Alonso might be about to disrupt the status quo at the front of the grid.
David Coulthard makes Fernando Alonso 2025 prediction after Adrian Newey announcement
The news that everyone expected was made public by Lawrence Stroll live from Aston Martin headquarters in Silverstone.
Confirming the appointment on Instagram, the Formula 1 official account posted: “BREAKING: Adrian Newey to join Aston Martin from 2025!”

F1 TV presenter and strategist Ruth Buscombe commented and said: “Huge W for the STEM subjects.”
David Coulthard had a much more straightforward reply and simply said: “Fernando Alonso World Champion 2025.”
Fernando Alonso has spent most of the 2024 F1 season ‘fed up’
The first thing to say about Coulthard’s Alonso prediction is that Newey is likely to have very little to do with Aston Martin’s 2025 F1 car, at least at the beginning of the season.
Due to his gardening leave, he won’t start work at Aston Martin until their latest car is finished, meaning he’ll only be able to make small adjustments that will require updates further down the line.
It’s much more likely that Newey will be tasked with working on the 2026 car when Alonso and Stroll will have a much better chance of challenging the likes of Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren.

Alonso isn’t happy with Aston Martin’s performances this year and the updates the team have developed over the course of the season haven’t worked.
Martin Brundle has noticed how unhappy Alonso has been but his mood will quickly change if Newey can work his magic once again.
