Pundit Danica Patrick has shared what Williams driver Logan Sargeant’s reputation is like in the USA right now.

Patrick was on Sky Sports F1 previewing the qualifying session of the Mexican Grand Prix.

It was a topsy-turvy hour of action that will ultimately be of great disappointment to the Williams team.

They went into qualifying hoping that Alex Albon could replicate his heroics during Saturday’s practice session.

He had split the Red Bulls in the top three of the time sheets but admitted his car felt completely different on Saturday afternoon and will start in 14th.

Albon fared much better than Logan Sargeant who will start the race on the back row alongside Yuki Tsunoda.

He failed to set a time in Q1 before being handed a ten-place grid penalty for overtaking the Japanese driver under yellow flags following Fernando Alonso’s spin.

Danica Patrick has now shared how Sargeant is viewed in the USA following a successful outing in Austin last weekend.

He finally ended his wait for his first Formula 1 point, and benefitted from the disqualification of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.

Patrick shares details on Sargeant’s reputation in the USA

Asked about how the 22-year-old is seen in his home country, Patrick said: “It’s so cool, I mean it’s great that an American has had a point.

“It’s a long, long time since Michael Andretti I believe, so that’s fantastic. We don’t really know him that well in the States.

“He’s not super famous in the United States, he didn’t really come up through the ranks.

“He’s only becoming more well-known now as he spends his time in Formula 1.”

Sargeant picked up two penalty points on his super license for overtaking Tsunoda under yellow flags while Williams were fined over £17,000 for leaving their equipment in the pit lane.

F1 fans from the USA still have no guarantee that Sargeant will be on the grid next season despite Patrick admitting his reputation is beginning to grow.

He’s the only current driver who hasn’t had his place on the grid confirmed by the team for next year.

He has four weekends left to convince Williams that he’s the best person to help take the team forward.

However, he’ll be well aware of how many drivers are pushing to take that race seat and will need to put in another solid performance today.
