Williams Racing driver Franco Colapinto has work to do to add to his points tally at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Franco Colapinto narrowly missed out on reaching Q2 in qualifying but will start the Mexico City Grand Prix ahead of Sergio Perez and Oscar Piastri.
Williams do at least have one driver starting in the top ten of Sunday’s race after a brilliant session for Colapinto’s teammate Alex Albon.
Albon has been under increasing pressure from Colapinto ever since he replaced Logan Sargeant following the Dutch Grand Prix.

The young Argentinian knew when he signed up for the final nine races of the 2024 season that he wouldn’t be staying at Williams for next season.

Team principal James Vowles had worked hard to bring in Carlos Sainz from Ferrari and Williams will have one of the best driver line-ups on the grid.
This has left Colapinto searching for another drive for next year with only two seats still available for 2025 – one at Sauber and the other at RB.
Damon Hill has now reacted on Instagram to the suggestion that RB could move for Colapinto.
Liam Lawson hasn’t signed a deal for 2025 yet, as Red Bull ponder whether to pair him with Yuiki Tsunoda or replace Perez altogether.
Damon Hill reacts to RB interest in Williams driver Franco Colapinto
Colapinto has been linked with Sauber’s vacant seat, however, they appear to have two other candidates to join Nico Hulkenberg.
Valtteri Bottas is in a good place to stay at Sauber, although another young driver not currently in F1 is rivalling the Finn.
Gabriel Bortoleto is currently leading the Formula 2 championship and if Sauber can negotiate his exit from the McLaren academy, then Brazil might have a driver on the F1 grid once again.
This means if Colapinto is going to race in Formula 1 next year, RB is his only option.
Reacting to this suggestion on social media, Hill simply posted a thinking emoji, pondering whether it would be the right move for him or the team.
The RB-Red Bull dynamic is a unique one on the grid and while it could give Colapinto a route into one of the fastest teams in F1, they’re particularly brutal when a driver is underperforming.
Hill also reacted on Instagram to Colapinto’s apparent snub of Martin Brundle on the United States Grand Prix grid and added: “He’s a star already and Martin!”
David Croft shares how James Vowles reacted to question about Franco Colapinto’s future
Colapinto has outperformed nearly everyone’s expectations during his short F1 career thus far.
He’s already managed to outqualify Albon on a couple of occasions and matched the career points tallies of Logan Sargeant and Nicholas Latifi combined.
On top of this, Colapinto’s popularity has sky-rocketed in Argentina, with a growing number of fans supporting him at every race.
This would make Colapinto an enticing prospect for any team to sign from a commercial standpoint too.
Sky Sports commentator David Croft suggested James Vowles ‘didn’t say no’ when asked about one option for Colapinto next year.
Keeping him as a reserve driver for 2025 would give Williams an extremely strong option that they could call upon if required.
But spending a year out of F1 would be bad news for Colapinto no matter how well he performs between now and the end of the season.
