Damon Hill has reacted to something Red Bull Racing technical director Pierre Wache has said about Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez’s relationship.
The pair led Red Bull to their most dominant season in Formula 1 history and started the 2024 campaign with a one-two finish.
Damon Hill reacted on X, formerly Twitter, to one of the reasons why they work so well together.
Hill reacts to Verstappen and Perez’s partnership
Red Bull went into this season with a very different-looking car on track but a familiar partnership driving them.
Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez are entering their fourth year working together after the Mexican switched Racing Point for Red Bull in 2021.
Verstappen has won every drivers’ championship since Perez joined the team, while the 34-year-old has slowly moved up the standings each year.
Red Bull finally achieved their coveted one-two in 2023 although Perez wasn’t at his best for much of the campaign.
Wache has shared why Perez and Verstappen work so well together which has really impressed Hill.

The Dutch driver isn’t the easiest teammate to work with given his unrivalled speed and ability to drive what is typically a very tricky car to handle.
And while Perez would likely want to be closer to his teammate than he currently is, the information he provides them is extremely significant.

Speaking about the pairing, Wache was quoted by GP Blog as saying: “Only having feedback from one driver is very very difficult.
“Because you see only one view and one way of driving. It’s very complementary to have a balance and when you both are going [in] the same direction, he pushes you even more and gives you more confidence to go [in] this direction.
“And I tend to agree with Adrian that you need you need two types of feedback. It’s a lot easier to see the overall car because you operate the car in a wider condition.”
Reacting to Wache’s quotes about Verstappen and Perez, Hill said: “This is significant intel.”
We could be heading into a world where Red Bull’s current driving pairing ends up being broken up.
Verstappen is being linked with a surprise move to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes.
Perez’s contract runs out at the end of the year and although he’s got off to a good start this season, he will know he has to continue performing to avoid being replaced.
