Kimi Antonelli’s clinching of pole position at the Monaco Grand Prix has left former F1 world champion Damon Hill with just one question regarding Charles Leclerc’s seat at Ferrari.
Despite Ferrari entering the most prestigious race weekend on the calendar as the overwhelming favourites, Kimi Antonelli broke the hearts of his compatriots as he secured his fourth pole position of the season at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Can Kimi Antonelli extend his record run with a fifth consecutive win to open his Grand Prix victory account in Monaco?
It was a spell-binding effort from the 19-year-old, who will line up alongside Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in Sunday’s Grand Prix, which promises to be an explosive start to the 78-lap race around the Principality.
After such a promising run programme in Friday’s Free Practice sessions, home hero Charles Leclerc could only muster a P4 grid slot. His final lap was ruined after the Monegasque suffered a puncture following a skirmish with the wall.
Even more wounding is the fact that Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton managed to outqualify Leclerc for the third time this season, with the head-to-head in Grand Prix qualifying now sitting at three apiece.

Damon Hill would like to see what Charles Leclerc could do at a different F1 team
During BBC Radio 5 Live’s coverage of the one-lap shootout on the streets of Monaco, F1 pundit Damon Hill was left questioning what the 28-year-old could achieve if he took the plunge and decided to move teams.
If Charles Leclerc wasn’t a Ferrari driver, which F1 team would you like to see him at?
Of course, Leclerc signed an extension to his existing Ferrari contract just days before the beginning of his home Grand Prix, which will likely see the eight-time Grand Prix winner remain at Maranello well into his 30s.
“He’s just signed an extension with Ferrari, but you have to ask, if Charles was in a, dare I say, better car, what would we see him able to do?” Hill wondered.
“He does everything he possibly can with that Ferrari. He used every bit of it, and finally just took a bit off it and overextended. But he had nothing to lose by trying.”

Karun Chandhok slams Charles Leclerc’s ‘errors’ during Monaco GP qualifying
Fellow F1 pundit Karun Chandhok was just as stunned by Leclerc’s disappointing result on the streets that he knows better than anyone else on the grid.
The Chennai native praised both Antonelli and Verstappen’s performances at the end of Q3, while blasting Leclerc for the mistakes he made on his final flying lap.
“My goodness…. That was some seriously top-quality driving from Antonelli and Verstappen!” he wrote on the social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).
“Feel like Leclerc missed an opportunity of another home pole with those errors…” he added.
