Damon Hill drops three-word reaction to announcement coming out of McLaren

F1 world champion Damon Hill has offered a delighted three-word reaction to news from McLaren ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.

McLaren are third in the F1 standings after the opening two rounds in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

Writing on his Instagram story, Hill offered his immediate take on a big development coming out of the team on Friday.

The eight-time constructors’ champions are looking to build on a strong 2023 season that saw them score over 300 points and rack up nine podiums.

They’ve yet to finish in the top three this year but Oscar Piastri came home fourth last time out in Jeddah.

And based on his ‘really impressive’ long run in Friday’s practice sessions, he may have an outside chance of going one better this weekend.

Damon Hill ‘loves’ Zak Brown news

CEO Zak Brown confirmed at Albert Park that he’d signed a new contract with the Woking outfit.

Brown joined the team in 2016 and took up his current position a couple of years later.

While Brown is committed to the team long-term, drivers Lando Norris and Piastri could yet attract interest from rival teams.

Norris signed a new deal in the off-season to race for McLaren until at least the end of 2026.

However, that was before Lewis Hamilton announced his move to Ferrari for 2025, opening up a seat at Mercedes.

Hill believes he’s ‘definitely’ in contention for the drive with the Silver Arrows despite his recent extension.

Norris said in the most recent season of Netflix series ‘Drive to Survive‘ that he ‘should be in a better car’.

McLaren have given him the tools to score 13 podiums, but he’s still yet to taste victory.

Meanwhile, Piastri still has two complete seasons to run on the contract he signed last autumn.

Red Bull, though, have picked him out as a potential replacement should world champion Max Verstappen leave the team.
