Formula 1 legend Damon Hill has admitted that he completely agrees with McLaren CEO Zak Brown about a real problem that the sport faces right now.
Every team is preparing for the start of the 2024 season and McLaren will be hoping to build on the success they enjoyed at the end of last year.
However, taking to Instagram, Damon Hill has weighed in on a debate that has been going on throughout the winter break.
Formula 1 is one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world.
With just ten teams on the grid and 20 drivers, it’s an extremely competitive environment to reach this level of motorsport.
The margins between first and second and sometimes come down to milliseconds and teams employ hundreds of people to try and find the smallest advantages over their rivals.
One of the big talking points heading into next season is the tightening of the relationship between Red Bull and AlphaTauri.
Christian Horner’s team demolished the competition last year, while their sister team finished 8th in the Constructors’ Championship.

AlphaTauri have moved their British base to Milton Keynes to be closer to Red Bull’s main factory but also citing that their old facility was too small.
It’s understandable that in a sport containing just two teams, rivals won’t be happy if 20% of the grid are working closely together, especially if one party is currently dominating the sport.
Hill agrees with Brown over Red Bull-AlphaTauri problem
A post on Instagram shared Zak Brown’s recent quotes: “We have some work to do around the rules. I think the A-B team is a real problem moving forward. I think co-ownership, you don’t really have that in any other sport, and I think that provides a lot of conflict of interest.
“I think any time you have an entity that owns two teams, or an A and B relationship, I think it really starts to compromise the integrity of sporting fairness.”
Hill replied to the post and simply said: “Agree 100%”
It will be interesting to see how much more support Brown receives for highlighting this problem from the likes of Damon Hill and other high-profile people within Formula 1.
It’s a unique relationship but Ferrari and Haas also work very closely and the American team have Dallara design their chassis.
There’s a real grey area in the sport right now which hasn’t been examined that closely because AlphaTauri have never been a front-running team.
However, F1 will be forced to step in if Red Bull and AlphaTauri suddenly dominate the sport in 2024.
