Are there any surprises amongst the points finishers?
Lining up on the front row of the grid for the first time in 2026, the Dutchman looked to take the lead off the start, but Verstappen had a 360-degree spin and narrowly avoided getting hit by the oncoming pack.
Teammate Isack Hadjar and Pierre Gasly brought out the safety car on lap six, and Verstappen used it to pit onto the hard tyres. He climbed his way through the midfield, having some intense battles along the way, notably with Alex Albon.

Damon Hill says Max Verstappen ‘can’t complain’ about Alex Albon’s Miami Grand Prix move
Verstappen attempted to pass the Williams driver on lap 18, but Albon put up a fight against his former teammate. He squeezed the Dutchman to the white line, where he eventually had to yield.
Verstappen came over the radio to express his anger over Albon’s move: “Mate he just squeezed me onto the bollard. What the f—! That’s not allowed.”
Talking on comms on BBC Radio 5 Live, 1996 F1 champion Damon Hill accused Verstappen of being a hypocrite, as he does similar moves against other drivers. That was seen on occasion in Miami, as Verstappen fought wheel-to-wheel with Lewis Hamilton in the Sprint.
“Well, hearing him complaining about Alex Albon regaining the place and squeezing Max Verstappen,” he said. “I have to say, Max can’t really complain about other people doing things like that to him. He does it enough to everyone else.”

Martin Brundle says Alex Albon did ‘absolutely nothing wrong’ against Max Verstappen
Martin Brundle also offered his verdict on Sky Sports, insisting that Albon did nothing wrong in his move against Verstappen.
He said: “Albon did absolutely nothing wrong there. Bollard would be the word.”
Albon went on to score a point for Williams in P10, with his teammate, Carlos Sainz, finishing ahead of him in ninth. It is a hugely encouraging result for the Grove outfit after a torrid start to the 2026 season.
