Following his exit from Red Bull last summer, Christian Horner has been trying to find his way back to the F1 paddock, and has recently revealed what he misses most about being amongst the pinnacle of single-seater racing.
Christian Horner’s efforts to return to F1 have ramped up in recent months, with Alpine currently looking like the team that the 52-year-old will lay roots at next.
After a nearly 21-year stint at the head of Red Bull’s F1 team, Horner cemented himself as one of the most successful team principals of the 21st century.
He basically built the Milton Keynes-based outfit from the ground up and turned them into a dominant force throughout multiple regulatory periods, which culminated in eight drivers’ titles and six constructors’ championships.

Christian Horner reveals what he misses about being in Formula 1
During an interview with 9 News Australia, the former Red Bull boss touched on the current deal he is in the midst of negotiating with Alpine, before being asked about whether he misses the sport.
Horner replied, “I’ve had six months out of the business now, and yeah, it’s been a new experience.
“I’ve been on the road for pretty much 30 years with Formula 1 and then before that as well, so it’s given me a bit of time to reflect on my career and what I did over the last 21 years with Red Bull.”
He was then asked what he misses most about F1, answering, “I miss the team spirit. I miss the people. It was a team that I worked very hard to build up.
“So I obviously miss that element of working with some incredible people, the men and women behind the scenes, the team.
“We achieved some incredible things that I’m very, very proud of in the time that I had, but nothing’s forever. Who knows what comes next?”
It’s understood that Horner has the capital to purchase Otro Capital’s stake in Alpine, but he is currently waiting for Renault to sign off on the deal.
Otro is also wary of exiting F1 as an investor, given its global boom in recent years and the ever-increasing valuations that teams on the grid are currently enjoying.

Even Toto Wolff revealed that he misses Christian Horner in the F1 paddock
During his time at Red Bull, Horner forged an intense rivalry with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff through their on-track battles that often spilt over into the post-event press conferences.
Despite Wolff having no sympathy for Horner’s sacking last year, the Austrian admitted that he missed his ‘great enemy’ during an interview with journalists at the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix.
He told Dutch media, via ESPN, “He said to me, ‘What are you doing now, because you love to hate me and I’m gone!'”
“It’s a bit ambivalent because, A: his track record is very good, he’s one of the most successful in Formula 1. So, clearly, there are things he’s done well within the team. I think he was, to a certain degree, respected in Milton Keynes.
“But then we didn’t often have the same opinion or perspective. So, he’s been a wonderful, great enemy over the years.
“Am I missing him? It’s quite strange to come here, and Christian’s not going to be around. I mean, what are you doing with him not around? That’s a bit weird.”
