Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has admitted he still hasn’t faced the biggest challenge in his Formula 1 career yet.
Horner was speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast and it’s clear the 50-year-old knows that despite his team’s domination this year, nothing lasts forever in F1.
When Max Verstappen took the chequered flag in Abu Dhabi, it ended arguably the greatest season a team has ever had in Formula 1.
The Dutchman won 19 Grand Prix with Sergio Perez chipping in with two victories himself to earn Red Bull 860 points in 2023.
Verstappen on his own would have won the Constructors’ Championship and despite the grid closing up this year, Red Bull’s race pace was unbelievable.
There are no major rule changes for the next two years and while the rest of the grid will continue to catch up to Red Bull, it’s hard to see them losing their grasp on the top spot on the grid any time soon.
However, Christian Horner has admitted that he faces his biggest challenge yet at Red Bull in 2026.

The team are well set up to face anything that comes their way, especially with Adrian Newey by his side.
But this is a completely new endeavour they’re undertaking and could make or break the team going into the next regulation change.
Horner admits he faces biggest challenge yet at Red Bull
Speaking about what his long-term ambitions are, Horner said: “Well a long time in Formula 1 is about two weeks and I’ve had offers come in the past to get involved in other sports, in other entities but at heart, I’m a racer and I love what I do and I have a commitment and responsibility for the team having been there since the beginning.
“Still, as the second-youngest team principal in Formula 1 I’ve still got a few years left in me and whilst my motivation is still sky-high, I mean with Red Bull power trains coming in 2026, that’s by far the biggest challenge that I’ll have in my time in Formula 1.
“So, it still motivates me to get out of bed every day and I’m excited every day that I go to work.”
The challenge of developing a Red Bull power train is going to have to be a huge focus for Horner over the next couple of years.
Their partnership with Honda has been extremely successful, but bringing everything in-house gives the team an extra level of control over their future pathway.
Another big decision Horner will have to make before then will be who lines up alongside Max Verstappen in that car.
Perez has work to do to keep his seat, while Daniel Ricciardo might not be ready yet to step up after joining AlphaTauri just a few months ago.
