Charles Leclerc was not happy with how Lando Norris’ final lap in qualifying jeopardised his position during the Canadian Sprint qualifying.

Leclerc had to settle for P6 in qualifying behind his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, while Norris managed to squeeze into P3.

After the race, a furious Leclerc went off on the radio, venting to his engineers about the issues he faced during sprint qualifying.

However, one of the other issues he did go on about was Norris’ cooldown lap at the end of qualifying, which he felt cost him greatly.

But the Monegasque driver took it one step further, asking Ferrari officials to file a complaint against Norris and McLaren for what he felt was an illegal cooldown lap.

Charles Leclerc left furious Lando Norris’ ‘illegal’ lap costs him in Canadian Sprint qualifying

Speaking to his engineers after sprint qualifying, Charles Leclerc suggested that Ferrari should complain about Lando Norris’ cooldown lap.

Calling the move illegal, Leclerc suggested that the team should take action, while shifting their focus to tomorrow and how they approach the sprint race.

“We should complain about the cooldown laps. Yeah, for sure, for sure, illegal. For tomorrow, let us focus on being alone on track.”

Leclerc also complained through qualifying and after about a brake issue that he felt had derailed his performance during qualifying.

“The tyres are completely done now. I think we f—– up big time with the brakes, the peak feels very, very bad at the moment.

“Guys, what the f—, this traffic for f— sake. Come on. My tyres are completely outside the window with this. Guys being at 10 kph in the last sector.”

Charles Leclerc urges Ferrari to ‘look into’ brake issue after qualifying

Speaking to Sky Sports after qualifying, Charles Leclerc explained the issue with his brakes, and urged Ferrari to address the issue to give him a competitive chance this weekend.

“I have been really, really struggling with the brakes on my side of the garage for some reason, so we need to look into it and find something for tomorrow.

“Otherwise it’s going to be a very long weekend because… Yeah, in the brakes I get into the corners hoping that I don’t end up going straight.”

Ferrari were not thrilled with their simulator data ahead of the weekend, and perhaps this is a consequence of them not fully implementing their recent upgrades well enough.

Hopefully, Ferrari can understand exactly what the issue was and address the concerns, especially as Ferrari’s upgrades will impact Leclerc’s long-term future with the team, and they can’t afford many mistakes right now.
