Charles Leclerc will face Lewis Hamilton when the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion joins Ferrari in 2025.

It is billed as one of the most exciting lineups next season as the most successful driver partners with one of the most successful teams in the championship.

Charles Leclerc will have his work cut out as he attempts to show he is capable of beating the seven-time World Champion, having been Ferrari’s lead driver since Sebastian Vettel left at the end of the 2020 season.

Lewis Hamilton will be going for his eighth title with the famous team and Leclerc believes their progress made this year means they will be in contention next season.

Discussing the comments on the Unlapped podcast, journalist Lawrence Edmundson discussed how Leclerc ‘surprised’ him with his comments made about Hamilton.

Charles Leclerc ‘surprised’ with his Hamilton comments

Leclerc appeared to be genuinely excited over the prospect of going up against Hamilton in the same team.

While the Monogasaque was teammates with Vettel for two years, it was at the tail end of the German’s F1 career and during a period of decline for Ferrari as they struggled to keep up with Red Bull and Mercedes.

Now he can measure himself against one of F1’s all-time greatest drivers, which was surprising considering most drivers would rather have someone who does not pose a threat to their dominance within a team.

Referencing Leclerc’s comments on HAM in his Race/ESPN interview, he says: “[He can] get a true, a true reading of where he stands against the driver who’s achieved that much. And I was surprised by how genuinely excited Leclerc seemed about that.”

David Coulthard predicts who will win out of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton duel

Hamilton is heading into the match up with the least to prove given his track record in F1, while Leclerc has proven himself to be a potential champion for the future with his performances.

The unlikely win at Monza this year showed just how capable he can be if he has the right car to win races with, although his relationship with Hamilton will naturally be tested.
