Carlos Sainz has made his frustration with Williams no secret, but after the Belgian Grand Prix, he made his future with the team very clear.
Sainz had to settle for a P16 finish at the Belgian Grand Prix, marking yet another unimpressive weekend for Williams.
Many believe his recent stint with the Woking team has caused Sainz’s stock as an F1 driver to plummet, especially considering the championship contender he was once considered in the past.

As his struggles at Williams continue, Sainz has repeatedly been linked to a move to Audi, as he looks for a reprieve from the current situation.
However, in a very surprising move, Carlos Sainz has seemingly confirmed his future plans with Williams and in Formula 1, and it is something few would have expected.

Carlos Sainz gives clearest indication of his Formula 1 future with latest Williams ‘priority’
Speaking to Carlos Miquel and other reporters after the Belgian Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz suggested that he plans on staying with Williams heading into 2027.
Sainz wrote off the 2026 season, suggesting that there was little he or anyone else could do to turn things around, before adding that he was prioritising helping Williams’ plan for the 2027 season.
“This year’s situation has little remedy. My priority is to help the team work on making things turn out better in 2027, and to stick with them.”
These comments from Sainz come as a huge surprise, given that he and Williams looked set for a divorce at the end of this season.
Instead, Sainz has chosen to stay put to try and get the most out of his time with the team, despite the issues he has experienced.

Carlos Sainz says he is getting ‘the most’ out of Williams this season
While speaking to DAZN Spain after the race, Sainz admitted that while he has struggled in the grand scheme of things, he is proud of his own performance given how Williams have failed to deliver a strong car.
“Well, ultimately, I know I’m getting the most out of the car I’ve got this year. I’m doing everything I can with what I’ve got.
“Perhaps even more so in the race than in qualifying – I’ve got a really good race pace this year compared to those I can measure myself against, and well, it’s a shame I can’t shine a bit more.
“Because in terms of personal performance, it’s been a very, very good year – but yes, it’s a shame the car isn’t better. I hope it arrives soon.
Previous reports had suggested that Sainz would evaluate Williams’ Azerbaijan GP upgrades before he made a decision on his future.
But perhaps he believes that he has a better chance of turning this situation around with Williams in the coming seasons, which is why he decided to stay.
