The countdown to the 2026 season continues to tick down with Cadillac hastily preparing for their Formula 1 debut.
Team principal Graeme Lowdon and Cadillac chief Dan Towriss have two vitally important decisions to make.
Neither of their race seats has been filled for the 2026 Formula 1 season, but plenty of drivers have made themselves available.
Valtteri Bottas has responded when asked about racing for Cadillac, although the American team might miss out on the 10-time race winner.

Alpine are also keen on Bottas as a potential replacement for Franco Colapinto, who did himself no favours by crashing out during qualifying for the British Grand Prix.
Journalist Diego Mejia has been keeping a close eye on what’s going on at Cadillac and provided an update on their interest in Sergio Perez.
Not only that, but Aston Martin reserve driver Felipe Drugovich’s name continues to come up, as the ‘special’ Brazilian attempts to make his long-awaited Formula 1 debut.

Cadillac’s management team are big fans of Aston Martin reserve Felipe Drugovich
Mejia was speaking on Fox Sports Mexico’s coverage of the British Grand Prix about what’s happening behind the scenes at Cadillac.
He explained: “We were at the team headquarters at a very important time for the future of the team, because in the coming days there will be meetings and important conversations aimed at taking the first steps toward probably defining the driver lineup for next year.
It’s no secret that Checo Pérez is one of the leading candidates; Bottas has been mentioned, and I think this video of the Cadillac he found on the street, where he talked about wanting to sit in that seat, was a bit more of a push from him, with the intention of being with the team.”
A report from Record Mexico went on to say that Drugovich is ‘another option’ being considered.
He’s said to be ‘well-liked’ by Cadillac’s management team, which should come as no surprise considering his background racing for the American outfit at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Mick Schumacher update provided amid interest from Cadillac in Formula 1 return
Another name that’s been mentioned among the drivers who could drive for Cadillac is Mick Schumacher.
Schumacher spent two seasons racing for Haas before being dropped at the end of the 2022 campaign.
However, Lowdon was speaking to Sky Sports during the British Grand Prix race weekend, and when asked about Schumacher, he explained that the German is ‘clearly one of the drivers on his list’.
He explained: “First of all, Mick is a very nice guy, I like him a lot, I’ve gotten to know him better now.
“But he has stayed up to date himself, has also done tests, and is showing great interest in the project.
“We like that very much, we like that very much.”
| TEAM | DRIVER 1 | DRIVER 2 |
| Alpine | Pierre Gasly | Franco Colapinto |
| Aston Martin | Fernando Alonso | Lance Stroll |
| Audi | Gabriel Bortoleto | Nico Hulkenberg |
| Cadillac | Valtteri Bottas | Sergio Perez |
| Ferrari | Charles Leclerc | Lewis Hamilton |
| Haas | Esteban Ocon | Oliver Bearman |
| McLaren | Lando Norris | Oscar Piastri |
| Mercedes | George Russell | Kimi Antonelli |
| Racing Bulls | Liam Lawson | Arvid Lindblad |
| Red Bull Racing | Max Verstappen | Isack Hadjar |
| Williams | Alex Albon | Carlos Sainz |
Schumacher appears to be an outside candidate for one of Cadillac’s two seats when you consider how much more experienced Bottas and Perez are.
Meanwhile, Drugovich has kept himself up to speed with everything going on in Formula 1 by being Aston Martin’s reserve and nearly made his debut at the Canadian Grand Prix.
There were question marks over Lance Stroll’s fitness, but it speaks volumes that the Canadian rushed back to action after surgery to avoid Drugovich potentially showing Aston Martin what they’re missing out on by keeping him on the sidelines.
