Formula 1 heads to the birthplace for the British Grand Prix for the 12th round of the 2025 season, where Lando Norris will be targeting his first home victory.

McLaren has come close to winning the British GP in the last two years, but it was either Red Bull or Mercedes that triumphed in the end.

Norris did well to finish on the podium, but if the recent Austrian GP is any indication, then it could finally be the year for the Briton.

McLaren’s new front suspension for Norris appears to have helped him generate a better feel for what the MCL39 is doing, enabling him to catch up where he fell behind Oscar Piastri.

David Coulthard thinks Norris has the upper hand in qualifying, and at a track like Silverstone, it is very important to have a good starting position.

Mercedes will be hopeful that the temperatures are low for the race, because the highs experienced in Austria appeared to sap their car performance completely after win in Canada.

Max Verstappen is the talk of the F1 paddock after it emerged that he was discussing with Mercedes over a potential drive for as early as 2026. Could he overshadow Russell’s home race with an announcement in their ongoing feud?

The British GP is always the highlight of the year so here is everything you need to know ahead of the race weekend.

What happened at last year’s British Grand Prix?

Lewis Hamilton was the winner of last year’s British GP after he triumphed in the changing conditions at Silverstone.

Pole-sitter George Russell was leading the race when he was forced to retire due to an issue with the water pressure in his Mercedes, while Verstappen managed to make use of a well-timed pit stop for Intermediates to finish ahead of Norris.

It was Hamilton’s first victory since the 2021 Saudi Arabian GP and was a fitting send-off to his time at Mercedes.

Silverstone is where it all began for F1

As F1 celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, the 3.6-mile Silverstone circuit is the place where it all started on the 13th May, 1950.

Originally an access road for the base of the Royal Air Force, the circuit is one of the most iconic in the world, with each corner at Silverstone having its own specific name.

Silverstone has hosted a race nearly every year, apart from 1961 and 1962, when it was hosted at Aintree in Merseyside. The circuit also alternated with Aintree between 1955 and 1960, and again between 1963 and 1986 with Brands Hatch.

Hamilton holds the F1 record for most race wins at a single circuit at Silverstone, having won at the track for the ninth time last year with Mercedes.
