Bernie Ecclestone ‘wouldn’t rule out’ Christian Horner working for ‘chaos’ Formula 1 team

Bernie Ecclestone has once again weighed in on the future of former Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner.

Christian Horner left his role at Red Bull after the British Grand Prix following nearly two decades in charge of the Anglo-Austrian outfit.

Immediately, stories started to gather pace about where the 52-year-old could start working next.

Horner was replaced by Laurent Mekies, who is doing a fine job at Red Bull in his absence, but his achievements since the team’s debut in 2005 cannot be underestimated.

There will be 11 teams on the grid in 2026, and while many have already distanced themselves from working with Horner, that could quickly change if they don’t start the next era of Formula 1 on the front foot.

Bernie Ecclestone has now suggested that he ‘wouldn’t rule out’ Horner ending up working for Ferrari, given the recent ‘chaos’ that has become a major talking point after the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Bernie Ecclestone ‘wouldn’t rule out’ Christian Horner joining Ferrari

When Ecclestone was asked by the Swiss outlet Blick about rumours linking him with taking over an F1 team with Horner, he simply replied. “How old do I have to be before these rumours about me stop?”

Expanding on his thoughts about Horner’s future when it was mentioned that they had been suggested as potential co-buyers of Aston Martin, Ecclestone continued: “Another team I should buy with Horner.

“But didn’t technical genius Adrian Newey leave Red Bull for Aston Martin because he no longer wanted to work with Horner?”

When asked where Horner would be welcome on the grid, the former F1 supremo said: “I wouldn’t rule out Ferrari! It’s just chaos there. And boss [John] Elkann is now even insulting his two drivers.”

Ferrari currently sit fourth in the constructors’ championship without a Grand Prix win in 2025.

Team principal Fred Vasseur recently signed a new contract, but he won’t be safe for long if next season plays out in the same way as this year.

How do Ferrari privately feel about hiring Christian Horner amid pressure on Fred Vasseur

Ferrari president John Elkann made headlines after Interlagos by claiming Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc for their recent lack of success, suggesting that they have both been talking too much and not concentrating fully on driving.

Vasseur avoided Elkann’s wrath in his most recent statement, suggesting that he’s doing a good job and praising his engineers and mechanics.

However, Elkann has also privately made his feelings about hiring Horner known, having previously approached the former Red Bull chief before hiring Vasseur.

It’s hard to see how Horner would work seamlessly with Hamilton, considering how they have previously clashed in the past.

Hamilton’s contract is said to run until the end of 2027, meaning if Horner did want to join Ferrari, he likely couldn’t afford to wait until the seven-time world champion departs.

Given Elkann’s most recent comments, he’s unlikely to listen to Hamilton even if he did speak out against hiring Horner, which could cause even more fireworks in a team Ecclestone has simply described as ‘chaos’.
