Oliver Bearman will become a successful driver for Ferrari or a top F1 team in the near future.

After his strong start to the 2026 Formula 1 season, there have been calls for Ferrari to promote Oliver Bearman from Haas for the 2027 season.

The British driver made his full-time debut in Formula 1 in 2025 with Haas, as a Ferrari Driver Academy graduate. These strong links to the Scuderia could put him in good standing for joining Ferrari in the future.

If Ferrari wants to look to the future, then signing Bearman sooner rather than later could be the best move Ferrari has made in a long time. Bearman has scored points in both the Australian and Chinese Grands Prix and was inside the top five in Shanghai, in a Haas.

It is not only Bearman’s on-track performances that have shown he has the potential to drive for a top team like Ferrari, but his off-track mindset has shown similar strength.

Ayao Komatsu reveals Bearman’s openness and ability to listen

In a recent interview with F1 Beyond The Grid, Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu revealed the exact reasons why Ferrari should hire Bearman for the 2027 Formula 1 season.

Komatsu said, “This is the amazing thing about that kid, but in those tough moments, of course, he is really disappointed, he is gutted, and he feels destroyed, but when we have those conversations, he is very, very open, and he listens.

“Even if he does not agree, he still listens; that is a quality that I noticed very, very early on. If you are able to listen and digest the information coming from the other person, whether you agree or not, or whether you like it or not, it gives you the chance to improve.

“I remember speaking to him in Shanghai before the weekend and saying, ‘Look, I don’t care about lap time this weekend as I know you are quick. If you are three tenths off Esteban all weekend, I don’t care, as I don’t doubt your speed. But you need to do every single lap on the run programme. That is all I care.’

“He got on with it and did every single lap on the run programme. What was the result? He scored points.”

Oliver Bearman has only just finished his rookie season. Is he ready to replace Lewis Hamilton for 2027?

Why a strong mindset will help Bearman succeed in a strong team

Bearman’s mentality and willingness to listen are exactly the qualities that separate good drivers from great ones at the very top level of Formula 1. At a team like Ferrari, where pressure is relentless and expectations are historic, raw speed alone is not enough.

The British driver’s openness to feedback means he can continuously learn from engineers, data, and experienced teammates. This ability to absorb information and adapt quickly is crucial in a sport where marginal gains define success.

Bearman demonstrates the maturity and collaborative attitude needed to thrive at Ferrari, making him not just a promising talent but a driver capable of evolving into a long-term asset for a top Formula 1 team.
