Mike Krack has revealed Fernando Alonso’s fury with his rivals in F1 following an incident that happened before his retirement from the Mexican Grand Prix on Sunday.

The 44-year-old was forced to retire from the Mexico City Grand Prix after suffering from brake issues that began on lap 36.

The problem began after Alonso had swapped out his front wing at the first round of pit stops, following a collision with Esteban Ocon at turn one of the race.

The first corner of the Grand Prix magnified the issues of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, with multiple cars opting to cut across the grass rather than attempt to navigate the snaking chicane with the rest of the grid.

The incident caught a lot of people’s attention, and George Russell was furious at the lack of action taken against the offending drivers, who looked to have benefited from going off the circuit.

Mike Krack highlights how Fernando Alonso was ‘very angry’ after seeing his F1 rivals cut the first chicane in Mexico

Speaking to Spanish publication Diario AS, Krack highlighted the incident as one that infuriated his star driver Alonso due to the fact that there were certain cars that he had gotten the better of upon entry to the first corner, only for them to take to the run-off areas and regain the position.

Aston Martin’s chief trackside officer said, “Here we have a tradition that on the first lap, Turn 1 is a bloodbath. There were penalties; I suppose the FIA will critically review what happened. But yes, Fernando was very angry about how things went through turn one.

“If you look at the on-board cameras, he had already overtaken several cars that then came out well ahead of him. So I can understand his point of view.

“At turn one, it sometimes seems like everyone is doing whatever they want and you can get away with it, and I’m sure many of you agree. It’s not easy to know where everything came from or who is responsible, what constitutes a racing incident or who is at fault.

“It’s difficult, and I understand why the FIA doesn’t want to make mistakes in these situations. All of this is subject to discussion, and it doesn’t happen the same way on all circuits.”

F1 fans shared Fernando Alonso’s fury at the lack of action by the FIA

With no drivers being penalised for the events that took place at the first corner of the race, F1 fans were annoyed at seeing Lewis Hamilton being given a 10-second penalty for failing to follow the race director’s instructions at turn four during a battle with Max Verstappen.

After starting the race in contention for his first podium in Ferrari colours, the penalty saw Hamilton drop down the order and out of the race for the top three positions.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur issued a ‘very harsh’ verdict on Hamilton’s penalty, but refused to comment on the lack of a similar punishment for the Dutchman due to the fact that he didn’t want to ‘complain about everyone’.

Verstappen shared how close he was to crashing into Hamilton in his post-race comments. The battle was highlighted as another episode in the long-running rivalry that the two drivers have shared since the beginning of the dramatic 2021 F1 season.
