Aston Martin have produced nothing but bad news throughout 2026, and things may not improve at the Hungarian Grand Prix as the team may not bring spare parts to the race.
The Silverstone outfit have been horrifically off the pace this year, evidenced again at the Belgian GP, as Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll did not break past the 1:50s in qualifying. Aston Martin were slower than a GT3 car at Spa.
It was even proved that the AMR26 was slower than a 1990s F1 car, with Alonso finishing two laps down and Stroll retiring. The team hope to find improvements at the Hungarian Grand Prix, but they are already facing problems.

Aston Martin may have a ‘shortage’ of parts at the Hungarian Grand Prix
Adrian Newey is planning to bring Aston Martin’s first major upgrade of the 2026 season to Budapest. It is hoped that the package will give Alonso and Stroll an extra two seconds of performance.
But given how far behind the team already are, Aston Martin would still qualify last if their upgrades did produce two seconds of extra speed. Early signs indicate that the new package may not have much of an effect.
A key reason for that is Aston Martin are ‘struggling’ to provide spare parts for the Hungarian GP, according to journalist and commentator Antonio Lobato. They could face a disastrous situation should their drivers suffer an accident.

Lobato said via the SoyMotor YouTube channel: “What can we say about Aston Martin? No, no, I’m not going to get into analysing this race because, I repeat, it makes no sense. It’s Groundhog Day.
“Look, Aston Martin hasn’t introduced anything new; they haven’t brought in any new parts since the start of the season. It’s been the same car ever since.
“They’ve only been tweaking the way the car operates, the power delivery, and certain aspects of the team, but the car itself is the same, so you can’t expect miracles – it’s not going to change from one Grand Prix to the next. We’ll just have to wait for the next race.

“In the next race, yes, the first big step is coming. Well, at least we’ll be moving on from Groundhog Day. We’ll see what the gap is – if there is one – with the arrival of the new aerodynamic components that Adrian Newey is going to introduce to the car.
“Well, from what I’m told, they’re struggling to get all the parts for both cars, but there’s going to be a shortage of spare parts.
“In other words, in Hungary it won’t be possible to damage the car too much – or at all – because there might not be any spare parts, and they’re already pushing the limits a bit.”
Guenther Steiner fears Newey might be sacked if his upgrades fail. There is no denying that the Brit’s tenure has not brought any success thus far, and he will be under immense pressure to turn the situation around.
