Pressure is mounting on Sergio Perez to defend his seat after crashing during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Mexican was attempting to improve from ninth place when light rain started to hit the track, causing it to become greasy in the closing stages of Q1.
Exiting the Turn 8 chicane, Perez caught the kerb and spun around a high speed into the barriers causing significant damage to the rear of his RB20.
The crash brought out the red flags and when the session restarted, several drivers improved their lap times causing Perez to drop to 16th on the grid.
At a time when he can ill-afford any more crashes, former F1 driver Anthony Davidson has explained why he believes Perez can still bounce back from the latest setback when speaking on Sky Sports.
Anthony Davidson explains why Sergio Perez can bounce back from Hungary crash
Perez faces questions over his future at Red Bull after it was revealed that certain performance clauses exist in his contract that enable the team to break their current agreement if they are not met.
Team advisor Helmut Marko said Perez must improve his results before the summer break, otherwise they may be faced with a decision to oust him from the team.
Davidson believes that he will be able to bounce back in the Hungarian GP and puts it down to a specific character trait.
“Too many mistakes in too short a time. It’s a simple mistake this one because he’s on the kerb and they are painted surfaces, like any racing driver should know, and it holds the water,” said Davidson.
“It’s just one of those situations where you’re in the spotlight because of negativity and yet another mistake. It’s just piling on top of you. I do think he’s the type of character to bounce back from this, you hear it in his mindset. He’s quite incredible like that.
“For all we know he’ll jump in the car, come from 16th and score points. That’s the type of style he has, whereas if it was me I’d be eating myself all night just stressing about it.”

Sergio Perez suffers fourth early exit in six F1 qualifying sessions
It is the fourth time that Perez has exited Q1 in the last six races, while he has also only scored 33 of Red Bull’s last 178 points.
Perez last stood on the podium during the Chinese GP in April, while McLaren has cut their points deficit down to just 78 points in the last eight races.

Red Bull can ill-afford to have Perez fighting at the back of the grid given McLaren’s current form, with their two drivers locking out the front row for the Hungarian GP.
This is why Perez must improve his results before the summer break, otherwise, he could end up being replaced by another driver from Red Bull’s pool of talent such as Liam Lawson.
