Andreas Seidl has denied that he will replace Adrian Newey as team principal at the Aston Martin F1 Team.
After the Chinese Grand Prix, there had been rumours circulating that Aston Martin would be in the hunt for a new team principal for the remainder of 2026.
Adrian Newey had stepped into the team principal role at the start of the year, but after disappointing performances in pre-season, the Australian Grand Prix, and the Chinese Grand Prix, he will reportedly be replaced.
Multiple names had been thrown around for potential replacements for Newey, with suggestions of Jonathan Wheatley, Andreas Seidl, and Gianpiero Lambiase.
However, Seidl has since confirmed that he will not be Newey’s replacement at Aston Martin.
If Aston Martin decide to replace Adrian Newey as team principal, who should they sign?
Andreas Seidl confirms there is ‘nothing in’ Aston Martin rumours
During a discussion on F1-insider.com, Bianca Garloff revealed that she had been in contact with Seidl and asked him about the rumours suggesting he would join Aston Martin.
Seidl was able to confirm to Garloff that ‘there is nothing in’ the rumours suggesting he will join Aston Martin as their team principal.
Garloff said, “There were rumours yesterday that Andreas Seidl is supposedly set to move to Aston Martin. I can imagine that those who reported this yesterday must have misunderstood something.
“Namely something about an Audi team boss, and that they weren’t referring to the current Audi team boss, Mattia Binotto, or Jonathan Wheatley, but rather to the former Audi team boss, Andreas Seidl, so to speak. He, however, is definitely not going to Aston Martin. We rang him yesterday, and he said, ‘No, there’s nothing in it’.”
Is Jonathan Wheatley the right man to get Aston Martin back on track in 2026?

Jonathan Wheatley departs from Audi with immediate effect
On the 19th of March, it was reported that Jonathan Wheatley was set to become the new team principal at Aston Martin for the remainder of the 2026 season.
These rumours were then followed by an official announcement from Audi on the 20th of March, as they confirmed that Wheatley will depart from Audi with immediate effect.
This announcement came at a crucial time in the links between Aston Martin and Wheatley. However, it is unknown whether Audi will hold Wheatley to a very long gardening leave, which would prevent him from joining Aston Martin during the 2026 season.
If Wheatley returns to England and joins Aston Martin, he would be reunited with Newey, with whom he worked with during his time at Red Bull.
