Andrea Stella is said to be aware that he would struggle to ‘achieve anything’ at Ferrari amid reports linking him with a move to the team.
On Thursday, the Formula 1 world was stunned by the confirmation that Gianpiero Lambiase is set to leave Red Bull for McLaren in 2028.
It was rumoured that Lambiase could become McLaren’s new team principal upon his arrival, and Stella was linked with a return to Ferrari.
However, McLaren stated that Lambiase will instead be the Chief Racing Officer, reporting to team principal Stella.

Andrea Stella knows he ‘can’t achieve anything’ at Ferrari
Speaking on the recent episode of the F1 Insider Podcast, journalist Bianca Garloff claimed that Stella is ‘aware he can’t achieve anything’ at Ferrari.
Garloff stated that two reasons could be behind Stella’s thinking – a lack of leadership and the feeling that McLaren are better placed for success.
She said: “The time Andrea Stella spent at Ferrari was very long, one might think he would like to return as team principal at some point. But that’s not what we’re hearing from Formula 1 insiders.
“Since the death of Sergio Marchionne and even since Luca Montezemolo’s departure, Ferrari have been missing a bit of leadership from the top.
“And apparently, Stella is aware that he can’t achieve anything at Ferrari and that the environment at McLaren is much more stable for future success. Therefore, this rumour that he is going to Ferrari is currently just a rumour.”
Before joining McLaren, Stella worked at Ferrari, having first joined the Scuderia back in 2000.
During his time with Ferrari, Stella worked with drivers such as Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso.

Carlos Sainz wanted to bring Andrea Stella to Ferrari
Speaking last month, ex-Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz said that he wanted to take Stella to Ferrari.
He said on the Beyond the Grid podcast: “I remember telling my team when we were leaving McLaren, ‘This team is actually a very good race team. These people are going to go up, they’re going to keep climbing.’
“I know how good Andrea Stella is, I know how good [technical director] Pete Prodromou is and I remember leaving that team and having two, three or four names that if I could have taken them with me to Ferrari, I for sure would have taken them.
“I knew they were doing things well and they were really good people that I enjoyed working with a lot.”
Having already led McLaren to two world championships, Stella is one of the most respected figures in the sport. Zak Brown will have to do everything he can to keep hold of his ‘secret weapon’ to continue his team’s recent success.
