Jack Doohan had been calmed down by the Alpine press officer after a Q1 exit in the Miami Sprint Qualifying.

At the start of the 2025 Formula 1 season, Jack Doohan made his debut in the series after being signed by Alpine to partner Pierre Gasly.

The Australian had been the Alpine reserve driver for the 2024 season, and earned a promotion after Esteban Ocon left the team and joined Haas.

However, Doohan’s rookie season in Formula 1 likely did not go as he expected, causing it to come to an abrupt end much sooner than anyone expected.

Jack Doohan was silenced after a pit lane incident in Miami

During the Sprint Qualifying 1 session in Miami, Doohan was released from the pits at the same time as Gasly, causing Doohan to have a slower release.

This, in turn, prevented the Australian driver from setting a second flying lap at the Miami International Autodrome.

Doohan was then unable to progress through from SQ1 into SQ2, and had to start the Sprint Race on the Saturday in 17th place on the grid.

After the session, Doohan had to be calmed down by the Alpine press officer, a conversation that was recorded and shown on the latest season of Drive to Survive.

Doohan said, “I don’t give a s— anymore.”

He was then told to ‘calm down’, before saying, “I’m already close-lipped, f—— 99% of the time. Anything they will hear is only a third of what I am allowed to say.”

Jack Doohan was later dropped by Alpine after Miami

On the seventh of May, three days after the Miami Grand Prix, Alpine announced that they would be replacing Doohan with Franco Colapinto after six race weekends.

The Australian driver slotted back into a reserve driver role for the remainder of the 2025 season, after failing to score points during his time with the team.

After rumours spread in the media that Doohan would be dropped midseason, a conversation he had with his Dad, Mick Doohan, was shared on Drive to Survive as the pair reacted to the official confirmation.

Jack Doohan said, “I thought that it was all b——-, and now they get to be right. That is what annoys me the most.”

The 23-year-old is still in the Formula 1 paddock for the 2026 season, as Doohan has signed with Haas as their reserve driver.
