Lewis Hamilton is desperate to improve his fortunes with Ferrari in 2026, and Williams driver Alex Albon believes the regulation changes will better suit him.

The seven-time champion hoped his move to Maranello would be the fresh start he needed, after a difficult end to his spell at Mercedes in the ground-effect era. But Hamilton continued to struggle in 2025, finishing sixth in the standings with no podiums.

A Sprint win in China and P3 in Miami were his only tastes of glory last season, as he could not get comfortable with the SF-25. Hamilton ‘resented’ his first year at Ferrari as he had little influence over the car’s development behind the scenes.

The 41-year-old did not get along with the previous set of regulations, as he could not utilise his aggressive driving style. But the 2026 rule changes could be just what he needs to extract that performance.

Alex Albon thinks the 2026 regulations will suit Lewis Hamilton the most

The 2026 F1 regulations are the most comprehensive changes to the sport in its history. There has been a huge overhaul to the chassis and aerodynamics, as well as a power unit that is more focused on electrification.

Testing is underway for the new season, and Ferrari have been looking to get Hamilton more comfortable with the car.

Hamilton has finally found a comfortable driving style after a year with Ferrari, suggesting that he is starting to find his way. Albon thinks that the new regulations will suit the Brit the most in 2026.

Alex Albon has had his say, but which driver do you think is best suited to the 2026 regulations?

Asked who will be more suited to the new rules on Williams’ official YouTube channel, he replied: “Weird question, but interesting. I have my person. I don’t think I should say it, but I think I have my person.”

Pressured for an answer by teammate Carlos Sainz, he said: “I think it’s Lewis. I think, lighter cars. I think that his style suits these cars a bit more. This feeling of, he makes the corners really short and he doesn’t focus on exits and I don’t think that’s the worst thing in these cars.”

Lewis Hamilton has been heavily critical of the new regulations

Nigel Mansell predicts a fantastic year for Hamilton in 2026, which is the same prediction he made about the Ferrari driver last year. It did not age so well, and judging by Hamilton’s feedback from testing, it may have a similar result this season.

Hamilton was seen struggling with braking during the first Bahrain test in February. He later criticised the new regulations, comparing the cars to GP2 machinery and calling them too complex for fans to understand.

Enzo Ferrari’s son agrees with Hamilton in that the 2026 regulations are too complex. The seven-time champion is worried about how they will impact the sport.

Former Ferrari race engineer Rob Smedley blames regulations and culture for Hamilton’s struggles in Maranello in 2025. Those are two clear reasons, but with his comments about the 2026 changes, F1’s ruleset could once again plague the Brit.
