Williams driver Alex Albon has admitted there are ‘opportunities’ around as the 2025 driver market is set to shake up Formula 1 this year.

Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari has suddenly given plenty of drivers and teams plenty to think.

Speaking on the Beyond The Grid Podcast, Albon shared how he’s feeling about his position on the grid.

Albon discusses his position in the 2025 F1 driver market

Last season was a unique one in the history of Formula 1, with every single driver retaining their seat.

It was Alex Albon’s teammate Logan Sargeant who was the last person to find out his F1 career was continuing after the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

However, more than half of the grid see their contracts expire at the end of 2024 and that’s going to create plenty of potential opportunities.

Mercedes have been linked with a host of drivers as Toto Wolff searches for his Lewis Hamilton replacement.

The 2025 driver market is set to create a few surprises and Alex Albon knows that he could be one person who benefits from that.

His deal doesn’t technically expire until the end of next season but as Hamilton has shown, F1 contracts aren’t always watertight.

That means Williams might have to be on high alert else they could lose their star driver heading into next year.

Albon fully focused on Williams

Asked what his situation is going into the 2025 season, Albon said: “It’s something that we know, let’s say it like that.

“You’re going to have to wait and see but on my side, I’m totally focused on the team.

“I feel like, I know it sounds generic but it is very true but I love being a part of this team, I love this kind of building the team around and this upwards progress that we’re on is very exciting.

“I won’t deny and say there are opportunities around, there is a very fluid driver market right now and I think, it’s exciting, it’s moving around.

“But my focus and my entire time is put on the team and for me to go racing and that’s it.”

Albon will be one of the most desirable drivers in the Formula 1 market heading into 2025.

He’s very quick and clearly a leader within the team and will want to be challenging for podiums and race wins sooner rather than later.

It’s hard to see him doing that at Williams, but if he believes the team’s long-term future could lead them to be nearer the front of the grid, then he might decide that sticking around is his best option.
