Former F1 world champion Alain Prost has now shared his prediction for who he thinks will start from pole position at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
The first race of the season was a walk in the park for Max Verstappen as he completed another Grand Slam.
Speaking to Racing News 365, Prost is struggling to look past the 26-year-old to start from the front in Jeddah on Saturday.
Alain Prost makes Saudi Grand Prix pole position prediction
It was a case of déjà vu in Bahrain on Saturday with Red Bull once again at the front of the pack.
Max Verstappen had looked seriously quick throughout testing and when it came to the top ten shootout on Friday evening in Sakhir, he delivered.
He was maybe slightly fortunate that Charles Leclerc didn’t post his best lap time in that session, but after negotiating the first corner in the race on Saturday, he was nailed on to start the season with another victory.
By taking pole position in Bahrain, Verstappen matched Alain Prost and Jim Clark’s tally and could overtake the legendary pair in Saudi Arabia.
The Dutchman currently holds the lap record in Jeddah but has never started in first.
Instead, it’s his teammate Sergio Perez who is a demon around the Corniche Circuit and will be hoping to record his third pole position on the bounce.

Prost thinks Red Bull are set to dominate F1 again
Speaking about the Dutchman matching his record in Bahrain, he said: “It was great that Verstappen took pole position and I am sure that now number 34 will soon follow.
“Probably already at the next Grand Prix [he will get his 34th pole].
“I think Red Bull is going to dominate this year. The rest might get a little closer, but in the end, Red Bull will still be too strong. Ferrari will also not be strong enough to win the world title.”
Verstappen doesn’t have too many records to break in F1 but overtaking Prost in the pole position stakes and earning his maiden first place in Saudi Arabia would be another one to tick off.
Perez didn’t trouble him too much last season, but he’s a specialist on street circuit.
He’ll want to prove he’s more than capable of matching his teammate, especially after his recent qualifying woes.
