The driver’s market should have settled down at this stage of the Formula 1 season, but there are still two – or potentially three – seats available for 2025.
Sauber and RB haven’t confirmed their full line-ups yet with Nico Hulkenberg and Yuki Tsunoda still waiting to discover who will be joining them on the grid.
Red Bull also have concerns about Sergio Perez which is adding an unexpected twist to how the grid will look next year.
Plenty of drivers signed contracts this year that theoretically secure their place on the grid until the end of the 2026 campaign.
That’s because a major regulation change is coming to F1 and teams want a settled line-up for the first season of the new cars being on the grid.
However, a few drivers are facing an uncertain future beyond next year and speaking on The Race Podcast, journalist Scott Mitchell-Malm suggested that one racer is going to be forced to look for a new team next year.
The turbulence within the two Red Bull-backed teams has been going on throughout the season with Daniel Ricciardo finally replaced by Liam Lawson after the Singapore Grand Prix.
Lawson is now fighting Perez for a seat at Red Bull next year, but Mitchell-Malm believes that whatever happens over the next 12 months, Tsunoda will enter his final season at RB in 2025.
It may explain why Red Bull are so against promoting Tsunoda knowing that his time is going to be up with the team next soon.

RB ‘does not want’ Yuki Tsunoda beyond the end of the 2025 Formula 1 season
Talking about the situation and Red Bull and RB, Mitchell-Malm said: “Given it came off the back of Austin, where Lawson had done so well and Tsunoda had had a problematic Grand Prix.

“He’s not even an outsider, really, for the Red Bull seat next year.
“I think he’s going to have his final season in RB and then he’s going to have to go elsewhere because his back main backer, Honda, is obviously splitting from Red Bull at the end of 2025.
“And there’s no future for him in that organisation because the top team just does not want him.”
Yuki Tsunoda already linked with rival F1 team beyond the 2025 F1 season
Tsunoda is in an awkward position at RB as he continues to see off every driver he’s paired up against without ever doing enough to earn a chance to drive for Red Bull.
It speaks volumes that Lawson already appears to be a more likely candidate to replace Perez after just two races this season.
However, Tsunoda – who has scored 83 points in his Formula 1 career – may have a lifeline elsewhere on the grid if it is decided that 2025 is his final year as part of the Red Bull family.
Honda become Aston Martin’s exclusive power unit provider from 2026 as they look to become a serious force on the grid.
Tsunoda previously admitted this year that there’s a chance he will sign for Aston Martin going forward because of his connection to Honda.
Damon Hill told Tsunoda to get on the phone to Aston Martin when it became clear he wasn’t going to be handed a chance to drive for Red Bull going forward.
It would be a very strong option for the Japanese driver with Fernando Alonso knowing he’ll have to retire sooner rather than later and Lance Stroll failing to prove he’ll ever have what it takes to win Aston Martin their coveted F1 championship.
