The British Grand Prix will be the 12th race of the 2025 Formula 1 season and will see Lando Norris gunning for his first home victory off the back of a win in Austria.
The Briton showed impressive pace all weekend and will be looking to capitalise on that momentum to deliver a victory for the home fans, making it a second British driver victory in a row.
Lewis Hamilton is going for a 10th victory at Silverstone after picking up a record ninth last year, but may find it harder if Ferrari’s planned upgrades don’t enable them to run at full pace.
Ferrari told both Hamilton and Charles Leclerc to lift and coast only a handful of laps into the Austrian GP, as they worked to protect the plank wear on their cars.
George Russell will also be looking to bounce back from Mercedes’ struggles in Spielberg with a strong performance, having started from pole last year. Much has been said about his future, but a good result could make things difficult for Mercedes if they decide to pursue Max Verstappen.
Our expert writers have given their predictions on who they think will be the winner, the biggest surprise, and the biggest disappointment.

Who will start from pole for the 2025 British Grand Prix?
- Ben Evans: Lando Norris
Norris showed at the Austrian Grand Prix that he can hold off Piastri under the toughest of circumstances and that’s going to be critical to Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
The 25-year-old will be hoping to use his home advantage and the support from his dedicated grandstand to achieve his first Formula 1 win at Silverstone.
The drivers’ championship battle is hotting up, and there’s no reason why Norris can’t record back-to-back victories for the first time in his F1 career on Sunday.
Who will win the 2025 British Grand Prix?
- Rory Mitchell: Lando Norris
Lando Norris had to provide a response to his Canadian GP mistake in Austria and he did just that with a dominant performance. It felt as though Oscar Piastri was in damage limitation mode, despite having a quick race car.
Along with having the home field advantage heading into Silverstone, David Coulthard now thinks Norris has a qualifying advantage over Piastri since they made upgrades to his car.
Norris has a better feel for the front end after McLaren modified his front suspension, and that has put him back on par with Piastri. A home win would be popular for Norris and could seal a change in confidence for the Briton.
Who will be the biggest surprise for the 2025 British Grand Prix?
- Tyler Rowlinson: Carlos Sainz
Williams are in desperate need of an upturn in form, having scored just one point in the last three races. There is no better place to do that than at their home Grand Prix, and it presents a great opportunity for Sainz to get some points on the board.
The Spaniard has displayed strong performances at a track that is suited to the FW47, notably in qualifying. Silverstone’s fast-flowing nature with short corners makes it an ideal hunting ground for Williams.
Sainz says ‘every millisecond counts more at Williams than Ferrari, and he will be keen to maximise everything at the team’s home race. The 30-year-old’s victory in 2022 proves he is strong here, and with the British crowd behind him, he could knock up a surprise inside the top 10.

Who will be the biggest disappointment of the 2025 British Grand Prix?
- David Comerford: Lewis Hamilton
This one picks itself, unfortunately. Hamilton’s success at Silverstone is unprecedented, but Ferrari could struggle to get on the podium if, as expected, George Russell and Mercedes are more competitive. Max Verstappen’s Red Bull will be a factor again, too, behind the dominant McLarens. Hamilton has finished in the top three here every year since 2013, but that run will finally come to an end.
