Formula 1 will race at the Interlagos Circuit this weekend for the 2025 Brazilian Grand Prix, with forecasts suggesting rain could make for another exciting race in Sao Paulo.

Brazil is known for its unpredictable conditions, which have resulted in some of the most unforgettable moments in F1 history.

Last year’s Brazilian Grand Prix was the latest race to join the roster of exciting events in Sao Paulo, with heavy rain seeing Max Verstappen performing one of his greatest races of his career.

Verstappen started from 17th on the grid, but was able to navigate the pack and perfect the wet weather strategy to take the top step of the podium.

The race also resulted in one of the most surprising finishes of the season, with both Alpines of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, joining the Red Bull driver in the top three.

It is once again a Sprint race at the 2025 Brazilian Grand Prix, meaning there’s even more opportunity for rain to cause chaos.

2025 Brazilian Grand Prix weather forecast

Friday 7 November – FP1 and Sprint Qualifying

Friday 7 November, is forecast to have sunny intervals with a gentle breeze, which should stay for the only practice session of the weekend. There is a slight 6% chance of rain for FP1, however this will dramatically increase to 40% by Sprint Qualifying.

The shorter race’s qualifying session could be impacted by thundery showers in the later part of the run, meaning teams will really need to perfect any Q3 runs quickly in case the rain hits.

Saturday 8 November – Sprint race and Qualifying

It will be a cooler day on Saturday, 8 November, with temperatures dropping four degrees compared to the day before. The second day is expected to be wet, with heavy rain predicted to hit the track during the Sprint race and light showers later in qualifying.

Winds should also ramp up to a moderate breeze on Saturday, with 18mph north westerly winds forecast for the Sprint race, which will reduce to 14mph by qualifying.

Sunday 9 November – Brazilian Grand Prix

Sunday will see the coldest temperatures of the entire Brazilian Grand Prix weekend, with the race seeing a forecast of 19°C. There will be a 30% chance of light rain at the beginning of the race at 2pm, which could turn to drizzle an hour later.

Fortunately, the weather is not forecast to be a complete washout that we have seen in previous races.

What happens if rain sees qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix cancelled?

The 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix saw a lot of discussion about what would happen if a qualifying session is cancelled because of the weather.

For the start of this year, the FIA introduced new regulations that stewards can follow for those circumstances, which means that qualifying could be abandoned.

If a qualifying session is abandoned, then the starting grid will be determined by the order in which the cars started their flying laps. There are some stipulations, including if times have been set, are on an out lap or are still in the garage, then they would take the results from Q2.

If qualifying is cancelled, then the starting grid will be set based on the drivers’ championship standings. If this happens at the first race of the year, then it will fall to the stewards to determine the starting order.
