It has not been the best season for Logan Sargeant after the Williams driver failed to do enough to secure his Formula 1 seat for next season.
The American has yet to score a point in any of the 14 races so far this season with Williams, with Alex Albon largely doing the heavy lifting with his ninth places at Monaco and Silverstone.
After several months of speculation, Williams will replace Logan Sargeant next season with current Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz in what is seen as one of the strongest partnerships on the grid.
Discussing his form midway through the season, racing drivers and F1 analyst Tom Coronel issued a damning verdict on Sargeant’s season so far on Formule1.nl.
Logan Sargeant costs Williams a lot in crash damage
The £15k-a-week driver was brought on the grid as one of the first American talents since Alexander Rossi in 2015, however, even with the increased presence of F1 in the US it was no enough to justify hanging on to his seat.
Coronel highlighted one important factor that Williams would have likely considered when they decided to axe the American.
“Sargeant has far too many crashes. With this, you not only dupe yourself as a driver, but also your team. All those damages cost serious money, which you prefer to spend differently,” said Coronel.
“Because of all those damages, you automatically end up in a negative spiral at some point where it is difficult to get out.
“Sometimes I think: What the hell are you doing? It is logical and justified that Williams says goodbye to him after this year and continues with Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon as a line-up.”

What will Logan Sargeant do after the 2024 F1 season?
Sargeant is expected to make the move to IndyCar in the US, however, he could still use the final 10 races of the season as a way to keep his options alive with the limited spots left.
His management did previously enter talks with American team Haas regarding a drive, however they have since gone with British rookie Oliver Bearman and experienced Frenchman Esteban Ocon.
Alpine is expected to sign Jack Doohan alongside Pierre Gasly, which would leave only Sauber as a potential option for Sargeant.

Sauber is thinking more about securing a driver beyond 2026 in anticipation of their switch to Audi, so it is unlikely that Sargeant could find refuge in a seat in that team.
The other potential options could see Sargeant take up a role as a test and reserve driver, given how important they can be from a marketing point of view and from their role in the simulator on race weekends. Otherwise, it looks like a move back stateside for the 23-year-old.
