Aston Martin star Fernando Alonso has admitted that he’s feeling confident that the team will fix some of the issues they encountered as they head into next season.
There were eyebrows raised when Fernando Alonso decided to sign for Aston Martin last winter, but it’s a move that appears to have paid off.
Speaking to Autojournal.fr, the legendary Spaniard was previewing the 2024 campaign after starring for the British outfit last year.
Alonso added eight more top-three finishes to his 106 career podiums last year, starring at the beginning of the year.
The 42-year-old looked like Red Bull’s closest competitor during the opening races of the season before Aston Martin started to fall away.
In the end, finishing fifth in the Constructors’ Championship would have been slightly disappointing after starting so brightly, but there’s certainly potential for improvement within the team.
However, Alonso has admitted that he’s feeling confident going into next season, particularly as their struggles last year highlighted what needed to improve.
The team as a whole will want to see Lance Stroll try and close the gap on his teammate.
That’s going to be easier said than done considering the Spaniard is still one of the fastest drivers on the grid despite being the oldest.

Fernando Alonso confident heading into next season
Previewing the upcoming campaign, Alonso said: “I think the end of the 2023 season gave us ideas for next year. Everything should be better, believe me.
“We have clear indications on certain parts of the car that they have underperformed in a few events, and these are weaknesses that we will correct.
“Now, with all the experiences and knowledge we have gained this year, we believe we have a better understanding of the direction in which to develop the car, even if these goals are constantly moving.
“I don’t think there is a silver bullet or a recipe for developing the car. If there were, it could be very easy for everyone.
“Formula 1 knowledge quickly becomes obsolete and we have to keep an eye open at all times. Despite everything, I am rather confident for next year.”
It’s positive news for Aston Martin fans that Alonso is confident heading into next season.
He’s spent his entire career being one of the fastest people on the grid but rarely having the fastest car.
So, for him to go into 2024 with so much positivity is rather unusual and a sign that he thinks Aston Martin could be competing at the front of the grid once again.
