For the first time in the 2025 Formula 1 season, a Ferrari driver finished on the podium after a Grand Prix.

Charles Leclerc put in a brilliant performance to finish third behind Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Piastri and Verstappen nearly clashed going into the first corner, and while the Dutchman was leading at the end of the first lap, the stewards decided it wasn’t a legitimate move to stay ahead of the McLaren driver.

Lewis Hamilton benefitted from Yuki Tsunoda and Pierre Gasly colliding and taking each other out of the race, before both cars settled into the Grand Prix following the safety car.

Every driver in the top 10 aside from Lando Norris started on the medium tyre, but as has been the case throughout the season, tyre management was then one of the big talking points.

Verstappen lost the lead after picking up a five-second penalty, following Piastri into the pits and then being unable to catch back up to the McLaren.

That put Leclerc into the lead, and he and Hamilton got as much help as possible from the Ferrari pit wall who not only nailed the Monegasque’s strategy, but once again starred when both drivers made their only stop of the race.

Ferrari fans laud Saudi Arabian Grand Prix pit stops as ‘perfection’

Hamilton was the first of the duo to enter the pits, and his mechanics delivered a 2.1 second stop.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to help him leapfrog Andrea Kimi Antonelli, as he once again finished behind both Mercedes cars.

Ferrari were even quicker when Leclerc eventually decided to move onto the hard compound, producing a 2.0 second tyre change.

The team’s fans couldn’t believe the timings of the stops, with one comment stating, “How have their pitstops improved so much?”

Another fan said, “[It’s] the only thing we’ve got,” while one post added, “Pit crew has been cooking because what are these unbelievable pit stops.”

“Wow! All we need is a fast car now,” read another message, which was followed up by, “The only thing that Ferrari does well.”

A perfect summation of their improvement from one supporter read, “Two seconds. That’s all it took. Charles Leclerc & the Ferrari pit crew just served up perfection in Saudi Arabia. Fastest pit stop of the day—blink and you’d miss it.”

Finally, one comment that will give the team’s fans hope for the future simply read, “Ferrari pit stops are better than McLaren.”

Ferrari’s incredible pit stop record during the 2025 Formula 1 season

Although Ferrari haven’t had the easiest start to the season on the track, they’ve been flying in the pit lane.

At every race heading into the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Ferrari had achieved the fastest pit stop.

Bernie Collins noticed the FIA studying Ferrari’s pit stop equipment in China, but nothing against the regulations was discovered.

Red Bull used to be the dominant force in Formula 1 when it came to pit stops, although they had plenty of issues in Bahrain.

Whether that’s connected to the departure of Jonathan Wheatley is almost certainly a coincidence, but it has given Ferrari the chance to step into their shoes at take over as the sport’s best team in the pit lane.
