Aston Martin continued their sluggish start to pre-season testing in Bahrain, and the nadir of Wednesday’s running was Lance Stroll’s spin into the gravel at turn 11.

Fernando Alonso was in the car at the beginning of Wednesday’s running, hoping to build on a difficult first week of pre-season testing.

However, Aston Martin had a ‘detrimental’ power unit issue during the morning session, once again limiting Alonso’s running.

Describe Aston Martin’s winter so far in one word…

The Spaniard only completed 28 laps before Lance Stroll jumped into the Aston Martin.

Unfortunately, the Canadian couldn’t beat Alonso’s testing distance, managing just 26 laps and bringing out the only driver-led red flag.

David Croft suggested Adrian Newey wouldn’t have enjoyed Stroll’s spin, and plenty of F1 fans agreed.

They believe that the recovery of Stroll’s car may have given some of Adrian Newey’s rivals more information about his latest innovative design.

F1 fans think Lance Stroll’s crash gave away a lot of Adrian Newey’s Aston Martin design

Plenty of fans reacted on Reddit to Stroll’s slightly odd spin at turn 11 and the fact that photographers caught the bottom of Aston Martin’s car as it was lifted out of the gravel.

One fan suggested, ‘Newey just got a lump in his throat.’ as he spotted Stroll’s car being lifted away.

‘Everyone has been after that design since Barcelona…’ suggested another fan, with Aston Martin shocking their rivals initially in Barcelona when they finally made it to the Circuit de Catalunya.

‘He is going to put a bounty on that cameraman’s head,’ suggested another fan, while one comment read, ‘Newey got Checo’d again,’ referring to when Sergio Perez’s Red Bull was lifted off the circuit in Monaco in 2024, revealing all of Newey’s ground-effect tricks.

Another comment read: ‘The rake on the Aston is insane, like other teams also have it, but Aston is too much, you can easily see beneath the car to the other side.’

One final comment suggested: ‘What a disaster for AM. Gearbox explodes, and now everyone has seen your car’s private parts.’

Mike Krack reacts to ‘a few issues’ for Aston Martin during day four of Bahrain testing

Stroll was the only driver who failed to complete more than 100 laps during the first three days of testing in Bahrain, and that reliability has once again failed Aston Martin.

Alonso is in the car for the entirety of Thursday, meaning the Canadian has to wait until the final day to get back in the car again.

Former Aston Martin team principal and now chief trackside officer Mike Krack reacted to Wednesday’s running and said: “A few issues kept us in the garage at times today and we are still missing all-important mileage with this car.

“The priority for the remaining days is to get laps under our belt. Despite the lack of running (54 laps), we are learning huge amounts with every lap and we are taking steps forward with how to operate the car under these new regulations.

“We know where to focus and every area of the team is fully focussed on improving our competitiveness.”
