The Monaco Grand Prix was the best race of the season for the Racing Bulls team.

It’s a well-deserved achievement for two young drivers who starred in qualifying before perfectly executing Racing Bulls’ race strategy.

Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson both achieved the best results of their burgeoning Formula 1 careers, coming home in sixth and eighth respectively.

Lawson earned a new nickname among F1 fans as he was tasked with blocking the Williams and Mercedes drivers behind him, allowing Hadjar to race off into the distance.

He created enough of a gap for Hadjar to complete both of his mandatory pit stops in the first third of the race, virtually guaranteeing the Frenchman a top-six finish as a result.

Lawson was then able to drive off into the distance as Williams performed the same technique to guarantee both of their drivers points, helping Laurent Mekies’ outfit add 12 points to their tally in the constructors’ championship.

Jenson Button offered some advice to Lawson before the race to try and close the deficit to Hadjar, and while that didn’t necessarily play out on track on Sunday, you couldn’t argue that his performance was any less impressive.

Hadjar finished one position behind Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton, although, in reality, he wasn’t even on the same lap as the seven-time world champion by the time he crossed the chequered flag.

That didn’t stop the Ferrari driver from showing his appreciation for what the French rookie achieved on the streets of Monte Carlo.

On the cooldown lap, Hadjar is seen driving up to Hamilton and the seven-time world champion puts his thumb up, acknowledging the Frenchman’s performance.

In response, Hadjar waves back to Hamilton after securing an unbelievable result for him and Racing Bulls.

Plenty of fans reacted to the moment, with one saying: “I really like this kid.”

Another commented: “Very precious,” while one fan simply said, “He is so adorable.”

One fan pointed out, “Every chance Isack Hadjar gets to say hello to his idol Lewis Hamilton, he does it.”

“I think Isack Hadjar is just happy to be racing against Lewis Hamilton. He’s living his dream,” another comment read while one supported said, “Imagine how he feels? Driving around Monaco, getting P6 just behind his hero.”

One fan even made the bold claim of stating: “Put the lad in the Ferrari after Lewis retires.”

A third of the 2025 F1 season has now been completed and Hadjar’s result has seen him move into the top 10 in the drivers’ championship.

He’s the only rookie aside from Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli to achieve that feat and puts into perspective what a good job he’s done.

Talking in his post-race press conference, Hadjar said: “It was a perfect Sunday for us. I’m really happy, and honestly, there was nothing more I could have done today in the race, so I consider it kind of a small victory.

“We had a plan and we executed it perfectly. I’m really proud of what we achieved today as a team, with Liam also bringing home a P8 and helping me out there.

“It was a big team effort, and a double-point finish is a nice reward for all of us. I found it quite interesting having to do two stops; there was much more to think about before the race, and we made it work today with our strategy.

“Since last week in Imola, we picked up some pace and made a step forward, something that we were able to carry on to Monaco.

“I’m confident and I’m looking forward to going back racing in Barcelona in a few days.”
