The Miami Grand Prix provided plenty of drama at the front and the back of the grid as Oscar Piastri secured a hat-trick of victories.
Another one-two finish for McLaren has given them a significant advantage in the constructors’ championship, while Piastri continues to open up a gap over Norris and Max Verstappen in the driver’s standings.
Williams were the team who came out as the best of the rest and appeared to leapfrog Ferrari in the pecking order as a result.
Lewis Hamilton was surprisingly positive after the race, despite only finishing P7 and having to fend off Carlos Sainz all the way to the chequered flag.
Further down the classified results, four rookies failed to finish the race, including the under-pressure Jack Doohan after contact with Liam Lawson on the opening lap, and Oliver Bearman and Gabriel Bortoleto after mechanical issues.
However, the team who arguably had the worst weekend in the paddock was Aston Martin.
Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll were the final two classified finishers at the end of the race, and the Spanish had two spins in two days to cap off an awful start to 2025.

Martin Brundle and Damon Hill lament ‘horrible’ Fernando Alonso moment at the Miami Grand Prix
Alonso managed to reach the top 10 shootout for the first time for the Sprint Race in Miami.
However, Aston Martin ignored Alonso’s call to switch to slick tyres, and he was eventually taken out by Lawson.
Both Aston Martin’s were eliminated in Q1 for Sunday’s Grand Prix and just a few laps into the race, Alonso spun again, this time all by himself.
David Croft and Martin Brundle were commentating for Sky Sports F1 (4/5 9:19 pm) and Croft explained, “Fernando Alonso has had a spin where he crashed out during the Sprint when Liam Lawson crashed into him and picked up a penalty.
“Alonso has had a big spin there and that’s dropped him down to 18th.”
Brundle replied, “One of those horrible, lazy spins that you almost don’t realise is developing.
“He turned in off the curb, picked up the throttle and the pendulum effect, the engine, the gearbox, and often you just sit in the cockpit and say, ‘Where did that come from?’”
Damon Hill was covering the events in Miami for BBC Sport (4/5 9:19 pm) and was equally puzzled, “Yeah, that was a bit of a strange one.
“He put a wheel on the right-hand side curb going into the corner, and it could be because I have seen some puddles still left around from the rain this morning.
“So, it may be that he picked up a bit of water on his tyres. It was very unlike Fernando Alonso.”

Formula 1 fans tell Fernando Alonso it’s time to ‘retire’ after tricky start to 2025 season
Alonso is one of four drivers who have yet to score a point this season and will be furious that Aston Martin ignored his calls to change tyres for the Sprint Race where he looked guaranteed to secure a top-eight finish, especially considering the penalties handed out after the race.
Unfortunately, he sits 14 points behind Stroll, and after his spin, many fans concluded that it might be time for Alonso’s 2026 F1 contract to be cancelled.
One fan said, “Every race it becomes more and more obvious that Alonso needs to retire”
Another commented, “What will be the excuse?” which was followed up by, “What a mess in the rain and everything.”
“Fernando is already getting older,” read one comment, and another said, “What a year, it’s just begun and I can’t wait for it to end.”
Aston Martin were also targeted in fans’ displeasure, with one message stating, “The car is terrible, but the old one has also had a couple of races that are pathetic”
Another fan said, “Genuinely time for Alonso to hang up the helmet. Genuinely hasn’t been any good in over 10 years,” and this was echoed by one comment which simply stated, “Alonso has to retire dawg. It’s over mate.”
Alonso hasn’t suddenly become a bad driver, and his first spin of the weekend can’t be pinned on him.
However, Aston Martin are in real trouble and it’s hard to see how many more opportunities he’ll have to get off the mark.
