Ferrari find themselves on the back foot this season, after coming into the 2025 Formula 1 campaign full of hope that they could finally end their trophy drought.
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz knew the constructors’ championship was in reach going into last season’s finale in Abu Dhabi and were only denied by Lando Norris’ victory.
Ferrari wouldn’t publicly admit that the arrival of Lewis Hamilton was set to be an upgrade to their driver pairing last year, but signing a seven-time world champion rarely has any downsides.
Unfortunately, Hamilton and this year’s Ferrari haven’t got on, although Leclerc’s inability to challenge for regular podium finishes highlights that the issue is more with the SF-25 than either of their drivers.
Ferrari had a race-winning car at their disposal last year, but it’s clear that the decisions taken over the winter to help get them over the line have had negative impacts.

| 1 | Oscar Piastri | McLaren | 25 |

The car can’t be run as low to the ground as it needs to be to maximise performance, as demonstrated by Hamilton’s disqualification from the Chinese Grand Prix for excessive plank wear.
The introduction of new regulations in 2026 also poses an interesting question for Ferrari as they will soon need to switch full focus to next year’s car.
However, Leclerc may have revealed more about Ferrari’s immediate plans than he was supposed to.

Charles Leclerc ‘said too much’ after revealing new Ferrari updates are coming soon
Leclerc took part in an interview with The Race after the Miami Grand Prix where Ferrari arguably had their worst weekend of the season.
Ferrari failed to communicate effectively between Leclerc and Hamilton when they were on contrasting strategies, and couldn’t catch Andrea Kimi Antonelli in sixth, while Sainz nearly overtook Hamilton on the final lap in his Williams.
The Monegasque driver was asked if there was going to be an ‘instant upgrade’ that was going to give Ferrari a boost compared to their rivals.
Leclerc simply said, ‘Maybe,’ but when he was pushed on the situation, he continued, ‘I don’t know, I don’t know when, I don’t think it’s official.
‘I don’t think…I’ve already said too much so yeah, there will be things coming at one point and I hope that this will help us to do a step forward.’

Fred Vasseur confirms Ferrari updates are on the way after Miami Grand Prix disaster
Hamilton will be delighted that Leclerc is under the impression Ferrari’s fortunes could be set to improve very soon.
The next race at Imola is in Ferrari territory and that tends to coincide with an upgrade package for the team.
It could be the final F1 race at Imola as a permanent fixture on the grid, giving Ferrari even greater impetus to nail the race weekend.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur was asked during his official media session after the race in Miami if an update package was coming and he replied, “There will be updates for Imola, but it’s not just about development.
“It’s about finding the best compromise with this car.
“We definitely have a small step planned for Imola, then another one for Barcelona, but the most important thing is to put everything together.
“Imola will likely suit us better than Miami because we struggle a lot in low-speed corners.”
Hamilton and Leclerc will be desperate for Vasseur to be right about Imola suiting their car better than Miami.
A repeat of their P7 and P8 finishes would not go down well with the travelling Tifosi next Sunday.
