Eddie Jordan has made a shocking prediction that McLaren star Oscar Piastri could end up driving for Audi.

The German manufacturer will replace Sauber – known as Stake F1 Team this season – going into the 2026 campaign as the newest Formula 1 works team.

And speaking on the Formula For Success Podcast, Jordan believes the 22-year-old could end up there if relations with Lando Norris begin to sour.

Jordan admits Piastri could seek Audi drive

There is going to be plenty of speculation over the course of this season about who will be driving for Audi when they enter Formula 1.

Both of the team’s current drivers – Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas – are out of contract at the end of 2024.

Bottas has already insisted that he wants to stay with the team for the foreseeable future.

The Finn has already shared some of the things he’s heard ‘behind the scenes’ about Audi and will want to be a part of the newest works team on the grid when they arrive in 2026.

However, there will be plenty of other drivers who could be tempted to join the German giants if the opportunity arose.

Jordan has admitted that he could see a scenario where Oscar Piastri ends up at Audi.

The 22-year-old has been sensational since making his F1 debut last year and Jordan is a huge fan.

In fact, he thinks he may end up being too quick for teammate Lando Norris and that might force McLaren to make a tough decision.

Audi will want to attract best drivers possible on F1 debut

Speaking about the young Australian, Jordan said: “I also would like to consider something that I do believe that if there’s a bottleneck at McLaren and if Oscar [Piastri] does the job that I think he hopefully can do then it might be difficult for Lando [Norris.

“And I would think that Mark Webber our great friend and colleague on this program and other television and I think Mark could really be sensible and take him out of there and put him into Audi because it was his home and he won so many Le Mans and various other things, there’s a connection there of course.

“And I think Oscar could easily go there, releasing a place at McLaren, maybe [Carlos] Sainz could come back there, that’s a possibility as well. I think you will see [a] huge change in the driver market next year.”

Piastri is unlikely to be in any rush to heed Jordan’s words and head to Audi given how strong McLaren look right now.

They were the second-best team on the grid at the end of the 2023 season with Norris only being outscored in the championship by Max Verstappen.

Piastri already has a Sprint Race win under his belt and is no longer learning new tracks every weekend.

That added experience means he should be closing the gap to Norris very quickly in 2024.
